I was tired, but I didn't want to fall asleep on the way back home. I wanted to cherish the little bit of time me and Lonnie had left together.
"You never gardened?!" I asked surprised. "I gotta teach you!"
"Man, that's some old lady habit, we gotta get you outta that cycle!"
I laughed. "It's actually really fun."
The car then came to a stop. A pretty long stop. I looked at the window hoping we weren't where I thought we were. But we were home. The dark street with the light on in front of the house made the moment even more depressing.
"Well.. here we are." He tried to make a little smile.
I looked at him. I Wanted to give him a hug, but I didn't. I was really upset.. Like I was about to cry. My face was really hot.
"You okay?" He asked.
I nodded. Trying to ignore the tears that just fell out of my eye.
"Aww, you're sad I'm leaving?" He looked happy.
"No way.. Miss Toledo said to come back at 9:00 and it's 9:03.. I'm in big trouble.." I lied.
He shook his head. "Whatever, just know that i'm sad your leaving."
"Why can't you... stay over?" I asked. "It's a long drive home?"
"It's not appropriate.""Miss Toledo wouldn't care. Trust me... speaking of her, she actually wanted me to invite you into the house when you came."
He blushed.
"Hey, you can't be rude after everything she technically did for you." I said persuasively.
"Your right." he sighed, taking off his seatbelt. "But, I can't sleep over."
"I'll get the McDonalds bag!" I said hopping out of the car.
I knocked on the door, to see Miss Toledo open the door in her pajamas. She looked embarrassed.
"Jesus! I didn't know you were going to invite him in! This is so rude, I apologize."
"Oh it's fine, don't let me stop you. You still look great."
She smiled and nodded. "Would you like to come in for a bit, I can assume that you have a long drive home, I can give you a cup of coffee?"
"I would like that, thanks." He said stepping in.
Walking in I saw Timmy watching a movie on the T.V. I held the McDonald's bag in my hand and waved it.
Timmy jumped up. "Is that-"
I nodded.
Before he started screaming, he saw Lonnie. His smile immediately turned into a frown.
"I don't want it." He said, quietly.
"Come on, Tim." I said.
"I said, I don't want it." He said unpausing the T.V.
"Well who's gonna eat it?"
"You can have it." He said.
I rolled my eyes.
I sat down in the dining table, right where Miss Toledo and Lonnie were.
"Where's Timmy, Hollow?" Miss Toledo asked.
"He doesn't want it." I said,
She shook her head, and smiled at Lonnie. "Don't worry, he's a little jerk that boy." She shook her head.
"He will be down here once he finds out he's alone in there for too long."We opened the McDonalds bag, and everything came out nice. Miss Toledo and Lonnie flirted a bit, but Timmy eventually ended up coming to the table after five minutes. It was nice, I wish things were like this everyday. It was like the families that I had seen in the movies, the family I always wanted. Even though Lonnie's attention was on Miss Toledo the most, which upsetted me. I would rather him date her than anyone else, so I just pretended to not notice. Timmy pretended like he didn't like it, but he liked the food as much as I did. He also ended up warming up to Lonnie.
"I gotta get going now, guys." He said feeling stuffed. "Thank you so much for having me."
Miss Toledo and Timmy instantly looked at me.
They knew I would be upset.
I didn't show any emotion.
"Hollow why don't you walk him outside?" Miss Toledo asked.
I nodded.
"Bye!" Timmy said. "The food was alright, make sure you bring some more next time."
Miss Toledo eyed Timmy, "Have a safe drive home." She smiled.
"Don't worry little man, expect some McDonalds when you see me again."
I closed the door behind us, i tried making both of us walk slowly to the car.
"See, that wasn't bad." I said.
"Yeah, you're right.. You were right." He laughed.
I smiled, but frowned as we made it to the front of his car.
He looked at me, I looked down. Trying not to look sad. I felt pathetic, I don't know how I got so attached in a couple hours.
"I had fun, you're a cool kid. I'm so glad you gave me a chance to prove that I'm probably not like how you expected me to be."
I slowly looked up, seeing his face instantly made me begin to tear up. I really didn't want him to leave, I never felt like how he made me feel today. I felt as if I was never going to see him again.
He gave me a hug, as he started crying too. "Don't-w-worry...I'll see y-you in a few days."
"Don't cry...please you're making me t-tear up."
"I feel like I'm not going to s-see y-you a-a-again." I cried even harder as I said that.
"Hey.. of course you are. I promise, you will start seeing me so much that you will end up getting tired of me."
"I'll never get tired of you." I said,
"L-let me go... It's getting l-late." He said as more tears streamed down his cheek. " I don't want to leave as much as you don't want me to leave, this is killing me."
I tried to hold in my tears. "G-goodnight.." I said turning away.
"Goodnight, Hollow."
As I heard the car turn on, he was about to drive off. He waved "goodbye"
I waved back, crying.
Then, before I knew it. He was gone..
