I woke up to the sound of seagulls and paramedics with Lonnie's face right in front of mine.
"Hey, kid." He said. "You alright?"
I shook my head as I groaned. My head hurt, and I felt dizzy more than ever. My memory couldn't even come back to me, I wondered how I even got there.
"Thank you," Lonnie said handing the paramedics the money.
He leaned down to my level again." First time hanging out, and you almost died..." He joked.
I couldn't even laugh, that would hurt too.
"It's not your fault," I patted myself down and attempted to stand up. "I got too carried away, I pushed my luck because I didn't think i could really drown as I kept moving farther."
"Let's get out of here," He said. "Get a bite to eat?"
I nodded.
The car ride back was quiet, I was getting over that humongous headache I had. All I could hear are static-like noises and cars vrooming ahead of us.
Lonnie scrolled through his phone, I could tell he wanted to give me space, because my head hurt or whatever. I didn't mind, at the time I appreciated how he understood.
A couple minutes later he asked, "Ever been to a nice restaurant?"
"I've never really been anywhere, to tell you the truth." I said, "Everything we are doing is a first time experience for me."
"I'm going to take you somewhere really nice, someday" He said.
"The thing is, we have to dress you up and stuff. So it can't be today... What do you like to eat?"
"Soup." I said. "I love soup!"
"What kind of soup?"
"Any, I'm okay with trying any kind of soup."
"How about fast food, you ever try that?"
I shook my head, "I see commercials of McDonalds and all of those things on T.V. Like Burger King, Popeyes, Wendys. But I never tried them. I doubt Ma'am would have let me."
"Jarred!" He called the limo driver.
"Is there a McDonalds around here?"
"There is, but about thirty minutes away from here.." Jared replied.
"Yeah, take us there." Lonnie commanded.
"I'm kind of nervous," I said. "Ma'am said the food there is all processed and fake, she said I would get sick if i ate too much of it."
"She's not wrong, but there's nothing wrong with eating mcdonalds once in awhile. Also, we will try more fast foods, mcdonalds is the fakest yet. But there is always a McDonalds somewhere, so I just choose that we eat that.
As we pulled up, I looked at the menu, so many burgers, sandwiches, so many sodas, and fries and chicken.
"Get a number 1, with fries and six piece chicken nuggets... get a milkshake too." Lonnie said.
"Uhh.. I want-"
"I ordered for you already."
"What? How do you know I-"
"Just trust me, you'll like it."
I trusted him. I didn't think he would buy something that I didn't like, so i just waited for the food.
We paid at the first window and they gave us the food at the second window. Mcdonalds smelled like fries. The bag they gave us was stained with oil, but it smelled really good.
