chapter twenty nine: my hero

As Jason and Valencia made their way home, she couldn't stop talking about how much she wanted someone to get him, basically happy that he got what was coming to him.

Although she was helping to soothe Jason's anger, he still couldn't help but feel riled up about all of it. He thought he should've said something way sooner, but she didn't care.

"Aw Jason, don't be so mad," Valencia swung her arm with his as she held his hand. "I'm not hurt, you're fine, and everyone thought he deserved it." She tried to reassure him.

"Yeah, well, you don't deserve to get judged by someone else on your looks when he's not anything special," Jason grumbled. "Who does he think he is? He wishes he was as beautiful as you are."

She couldn't help but smile at his words. Even though she could tell he still had heightened emotions from the fight, she thought it was sweet that he was still coming to her defense.

Maybe she was a bit crazy in the head or feeling lustful for thinking this, but she couldn't see how Jason did any wrong after everything that happened.

He was defending his woman, and he didn't care what anybody had to say about it. He wasn't tolerating any disrespect, and to her, that made him the perfect knight in shining armor.

When they made it back to her apartment, she led Jason into the bathroom where she had some bandaids and alcohol stashed away in case of minor cuts and bruises.

Jason leaned against the sink, watching as she examined his body to see where he had cuts and bruises. He was about to tell her it was unnecessary, but she was already pulling out the stops.

"Didn't think I would be playing nurse tonight," Valencia giggled as she took a small cotton ball and dipped it in alcohol, wanting to make sure nothing got infected. "But, I have no complaints."

He wasn't saying much to her as she was working on him. He didn't know how she felt about everything that happened, so he didn't want to say the wrong thing and ruin their night.

They stood close to each other in silence, the only sound coming from the quiet clack of Valencia's heels as she kept moving around in the bathroom.

"You know, I'm kind of happy you kicked his ass," She teases, as she begins to unravel the bandaids. "He had it coming, so...thank you." She smiles, kissing his cheek.

Jason was surprised to hear that. He didn't think he would get rewarded for doing something he didn't want to in the first place, but he wasn't complaining. As long as she wasn't mad at him, he was fine.

"With the way you were begging me not to fight the guy, I thought you'd be pretty upset." He replied as he continued to watch her every move, bracing himself for the minor stings.

"No, not really," She shook her head, her eyes focused on healing him. "If you knew the amount of things he did to us, you'd say he deserved it too." She admitted to him.

His brows furrowed once he heard that. So there was more he didn't know about. He didn't care to know all the details, but it angered him knowing Valencia was probably the target of that too.

"So this wasn't the first time he's been an asshole to you?" Jason asked for clarification. He already knew what the answer was to that question which didn't help the emotions that still lingered.

"Well yeah," She shrugged. "To me and the rest of my friends." She said it like it was nothing. He didn't understand how they could be okay with that, as if that was something normal "friends" did.

Jason's face remained stoic, almost like he was trying to keep up the tough guy act. Valencia kept glancing at him with a little smirk, almost as if she was trying to get him to crack.

"Oh my gosh, stop being so mad, Jase," Valencia laughed as she put some ointment on him. "I just told you I didn't mind the fact that you beat him up." She said, trying to get him to smile.

He didn't say anything, but anything coming from her made it so easy to crack. The corner of his lip had curled upwards, making Valencia feel a bit relieved that he was fine after all.

He looked at her as she put the last of the ointment on his skin. "I did it for you," He admitted. "If I see that guy again, I can't make any promises."

"And I appreciate it," Valencia said sweetly. "But we both know you aren't going to do anything." She laughed. The smirk on Jason's face grew more at her words. She was right about that.

He didn't remember much of what happened during the fight, only that it was a rare moment of anger. He never got that upset unless it was something that had to do with someone he cared for deeply.

"Just so you know," Valencia said as she put the supplies away before turning back to him. "You'll always be my hero." She winked, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Jason's cheeks went pink as a bashful grin grew on his face. "Thanks, Val," He rested his hands on her waist. "Now can I take off this dress like you promised earlier?" He winked, pulling her closer.

Valencia playfully rolled her eyes, looking at him. "Fine, just because you asked so nicely." She teased, taking his hand and heading into her bedroom.
