Katherine's POV
As I walk towards the large building, I feel an unnerving sense of fear in my chest.
"What's wrong Kat?" Cameron teases from beside me. "Nervous for your first day at human college?"
"What? No!" I reply as we get closer to the front building where there are lines of humans. I envy my twin brother's confidence.
"Oh please, I can practically smell the nerves radiating off you."
"Shut up Cam, you're not funny." I have to resist the urge to punch him in the shoulder.
"Do you think they will let us share a dorm?" He asks.
"Probably not... " I reply, happy with myself for being able to keep my fist out of his face. "Don't they make people share dorms with strangers to meet new people like in the human movies?"
"I guess they do." He mutters as he adjusts his hands on his box of belongings. "I have a feeling I'll be able to convince them though." He smiles.
"Don't even think about it." I growl quietly. "We are not here to compel humans; we are here to see what it's like to be one."
We stop when we reach the back of the long line. I peer down the seemingly endless line of people. I hate it when he's right.
"You sure we can't compel the humans?" Cameron asked quietly. I can feel his cocky grin without having to look at him.
I sigh. "Do your thing..." I mutter before following him. We walk towards the middle of the line.
"Hello there." Cameron smiles at an innocent looking human girl. He has to lean down to reach her eye level because of how much taller than her he is. "My sister and I are going to cut in front of you and you are going to let us." I watch as his pupils enlarge and reduce, the girl's eyes following his.
"Ok!" She smiles before giving us room to cut in front of her.
**********
After thirty minutes, we finally reach the front of the line. "Name?" The old lady that's serving us asks. She's wearing a soft, loose blue dress with a lighter grey cardigan over the top.
"Katherine Whitlock." I reply with soft smile.
"Red block, room 308." She says blankly without even looking at me. "Ask the building administrator for your key."
"Thank you." I smile politely.
"Next!" She calls, ignoring me rudely.
"Grumpy much..." I mutter as I shuffle to the side to wait for Cameron.
"Name?" She asks Cameron.
"Cameron Whitlock." He growls, obviously not liking her attitude towards me moments ago.
"Blue block, room 013." She says this time she looked up at Cameron because of his sudden harsh tone. "Ask the building administrator for your key."
Cameron turns to me without saying anything to the lady and we walk away. "We are in different blocks." He grumbles in disappointment.
"We will be fine, Cam." I smile at his annoyance.
Suddenly, someone crashes into me. I would have dropped my box if it weren't for Cameron and his reflexes that are faster than mine. Unfair...
"Hey! Watch where you're going!" A guy with dark brown hair and the most beautiful amber eyes I have ever seen yells as he picks up his box off of the floor.
