Gale's POV
We had to take two cars to fit all seven of us. I was driving Jaspers car because his lazy ass couldn't be bothered. I made Katherine come in my car, more specifically, the passenger's seat. I needed her to be close if I wanted to annoy her.
Jasper and Sebastian were sitting in the backseats and talked to each other whilst also scrolling on their phones.
Katherine rested her head against the window, probably catching up on the sleep that I had disturbed this morning. A notification popped up on her phone, but she was asleep, so she didn't notice.
We were at a red light. I picked up her phone and viewed the notification. It was from her asshole brother, Cameron. His contact name was Cam. He was telling her that he was at her dorm and had been knocking.
Another notification from him popped up. He was asking where the fuck she was. Jesus. I thought as I put her phone back down where I found it before the light turned green.
Our car was right behind Zack's car. I actually kind of felt sorry of whatever Elanor was having to deal with. Zack and Luna weren't even dating, even though they sure as hell acted like it. I had always assumed that it was a friends with benefits kind of thing.
Suddenly, Katherine snapped awake. Jasper and Sebastian were too busy to notice it. "You alright?" I asked.
She glared at me. "Yes."
I frowned. "What did I do?"
"You woke me up this morning." She grumbled.
I rolled my eyes but grinned and continued to focus on the road. "Well sorry for interrupting your beauty sleep."
"You are not forgiven." She replied, her voice filled to the brim with sass.
Her sass reminded me of a certain dream I had had last night. I could feel myself hardening just thinking about it. Shit. Shit. Shit. I thought before praying to anyone that could be prayed to that she wouldn't notice.
I kept myself from looking at her, afraid that it would draw her attention.
Of course, with my luck, she turned to look at me, probably wondering why I was so quiet. I kept looking forward, but I could see in my periphery that she had frozen. Well thanks... I thought to all the people I had prayed to.
"Satan..." She whispered under her breath and turned away.
**********
We arrived at the breakfast bar. I parked Jasper's car beside Zack's. Katherine was the first one out of the car. She rushed to meet with Elanor and Luna.
I looked down at the passenger seat to see Katherine had left her phone there.
I grabbed it before walking out of the car. "Hey, Kath-" I was interrupted the sound of a notification. I looked down at Katherine's phone. Another message from her brother.
"Where the fuck are you? I've been waiting at your dorm for millennials. I knocked on the demon hunter's dorm and no one answered." There was a pause before he messaged again, I read the notification. "Are you out with him and his friends?"
I decided not to answer for her. "Katherine! You left your phone in the car."
She paused at the door and let everyone else pass her while she waited for me. I reached her and held out her phone for her to grab. She was about to grab it from me before I moved the phone. She blinked and tried to grab it again. I moved it again.
"They're waiting for us inside." she mumbled.
"I know." I grinned as I dodged another grab. "Why don't you just use your demon speed to take it from me?"
"Because I'm not dumb enough to expose myself to humans." She replied grumpily.
"Aw, someone's getting grumpy." I tilted my head and pouted my lips.
"Give me my phone, or, I'll tell everyone about your little incident in the car." She threatened, grinning when she saw my eyes slightly widen. She used that moment to finally grab her phone from my hand. "Thank you." She said cheerfully before turning and walking inside of the breakfast bar.
I followed her inside and to the large circular table that our friends were sitting on. Eleanor and Luna sat beside each other, Zack sat next to Luna, Sebastian sat next to Zack, and Jasper sat beside Sebastian.
Katherine walked over and sat next to Jasper because of the lack of space next to the girls. I sat beside her. I was happy with that because it meant that I could annoy her more.
There were a few people from our college at the bar. They were either groups of friends, like us, or they were couples on dates. Breakfast dates? Regulars confuse me...
"Gale?" Jasper snapped me away from my thoughts. I turned to look at him. "I said, what do you want?" He asked.
"A latte, thanks." I replied.
"Food?" He continued to ask.
"No, thank you."
"Alrighty then." He said as he continued taking everyone else's orders.
I looked in Katherine's direction to see her staring at me. "What?" I asked.
"Nothing." She shook her head and looked down at the table.
Her swift movement sent a whiff of strawberries and vanilla straight to my nose. I held in a groan. I fucking loved her scent, and it was driving me crazy just sitting next to her.
Before I knew it, there was a large latte sitting in front of me. "Coffee person." Katherine noted out loud but quietly.
"Yes, I am a coffee person." I said as I waited for it to cool.
"Can't handle the heat?" She asked.
"It's fresh, Katherine. It's hot." I said.
"I think you skipped a chapter in your book about how well my kind handle heat." She whispered in my ear so that no one else could hear. There was a mocking grin on her face.
I rolled my eyes as she leaned away from my ear and back in her original position. I looked around the table. I spotted Zack, Sebastian, and Jasper, all shooting me knowing looks.
I frowned and shook my head, basically telling them to piss off. All three of them looked away in sync.
