Gale's POV

We had to take two cars to fit all seven of us. I'm driving Jasper's car because his lazy ass can't be bothered. I made Katherine come in my car, more specifically, the passenger's seat. I need her to be close if I want to piss her off.

Jasper and Sebastian are sitting in the backseats and talk to each other whilst also scrolling through their phones.

Katherine rests her head against the window, probably catching up on the sleep that I had disturbed this morning. I find myself looking down at her phone when I see a notification pop up on the screen, but she's asleep and doesn't notice.

We're at a red light when I pick up her phone to view the notification. It was from her asshole brother, Cameron. His contact's name is "Cam" with a purple devil emoji next to it. He's telling her that he's at her dorm and has been knocking for the past five minutes.

Another notification from him pops up. He was asking where she is. Jesus. I think as I put her phone back down where I found it before the light turns green.

Our car is right behind Zack's car. I actually kind of feel sorry of whatever Elanor was having to deal with. Zack and Luna aren't even dating, even though they sure as hell act like it. I've always assumed that it's a friends with benefits kind of thing but something tells me that there's more to it.

Suddenly, Katherine snaps awake, and Jasper and Sebastian are too busy to notice it. "You alright?" I asks quietly.

She glares at me. "Yes."

I frown, suddenly confused about the sudden look of hatred she flashes me. "What did I do?"

"You woke me up this morning." She grumbles, rubbing her fingers over her eyes.

I roll my eyes but grin and continue to focus on where I'm driving. "Well sorry for interrupting your beauty sleep."

"You will never be forgiven." She replies, her voice filled to the brim with sass.

Her sass reminds me of a certain dream I had last night. I can feel myself hardening just thinking about it. Shit. Shit. Shit. I think before praying to anyone that can be prayed to that she won't notice.

I keep myself from looking at her, afraid that it will draw her attention towards me.

Of course, with my luck, she turns to look at me, probably wondering I'm all of a sudden so quiet. I keep looking forward, but I can see in my periphery that she's frozen in her seat. Well thanks... I say to all the people I had prayed to.

"Satan..." She whispers under her breath and turns her head away to look straight forward.

**********

We arrive at the breakfast bar. I had parked Jasper's car beside Zack's in the small parking lot. Katherine's the first one out of the car as she rushes to meet with Elanor and Luna.

I look down at the passenger seat to see that Katherine had left her phone on her seat.

I grab it before walking out of the car. "Hey, Kath-" I'm interrupted by the sound of a notification. I look down to see another message from her brother.

"Where the are you? I've been waiting at your dorm for millennials. I knocked on the demon hunter's dorm and no one answered." There's a pause before he messages again, and I read the next notification. "Are you out with him and his friends?"

I decide not to answer for her. "Katherine! You left your phone in the car."

She pauses at the door and lets everyone else pass her while she waits for me. I reach her and hold out her phone for her to grab. She's about to grab it from me before I move the phone out of her reach. She blinks and tries to grab it from my hand again but fails when I move it again.

"They're waiting for us inside." she mumbles, annoyed.

"I know." I grin as I dodge another grab. "Why don't you just use your demon speed to take it from me?"

"Because I'm not dumb enough to expose myself to other humans." She replies grumpily. "One annoying one is enough."

"Aw, someone's getting grumpy." I tilt my head and pout my lips.

"Give me my phone, or I'll tell everyone about your little incident in the car." She threatens, her voice low in a way that makes me hold my breath. She grins when she sees my eyes slightly widen and she uses that moment to finally grab her phone from my hand. "Thank you." She says cheerfully before turning and walking inside the breakfast bar.

I follow her inside and we walk to a large circular table that our friends have decided to sit on. Eleanor and Luna sit beside each other, Zack sits beside Luna, Sebastian sits next to Zack, and Jasper sits beside Sebastian.

Katherine walks over and sits next to Jasper because of the lack of space next to the girls. I sit beside her despite the way she eyes me as if telling me not to. It makes me happy because it means I can annoy her even more.

There are a couple of people from our college at the bar. They're either groups of friends, like us, or they're couples on dates. Breakfast dates? Regulars confuse me...

"Gale?" Jasper snaps me away from my thoughts. I turn to look at him. "I said, what do you want?" He asks a second time. He has the notes app open on his phone to write down everyone's orders.

"A latte, thanks." I reply cooly.

"No food?" He continues to ask, he almost looks terrified.

"No, thank you."

"Alrighty then." He says as he continues taking everyone else's orders.

I look in Katherine's direction to see her staring at me. "What?"

"Nothing." She shakes her head and around the table to listen to everyone's conversations.

Her swift movement sends a whiff of strawberries and vanilla straight to my nose. I have to hold in a groan. I fucking love her scent, and it's driving me crazy just sitting next to her.

Before I know it, there's a large latte sitting in front of me. "Coffee person." Katherine notes out loud but quietly as if no one was meant to hear it.

"Yes, I am a coffee person." I say as I wait for it to cool.

"Can't handle the heat?" She asks as she looks up at me. Is she... flirting?

"It's fresh, Katherine. It's hot." I reply and I can help but look down at her lips for a millisecond.

"I think you skipped a chapter in your book about how well my kind handle heat." She whispers in my ear so that no one else can hear. There's an even bigger grin on her face.

I roll my eyes as she leans away from my ear and back into her original position before sipping on the tea she has ordered. I look around the table. I spot Zack, Sebastian, and Jasper, all shooting me the same knowing looks.

I frown, basically telling them to piss off and all three of them look away in sync.
