The smoke entered my lungs and It felt like I was choking, coughing, suffocating under it's stench. Bombs exploded around me as I struck down battle droid after battle droid. But at the end of the battle field was Palpatine holding my pregnant wife hostage. His red lightsaber was aimed at her belly and I watched as his blade plunged into her as I looked on horrified. Her scream reverberated in my skull and it broke me out of my sleep and I woke up panting.
My wife woke up next to me and looked at me with concern. She saw my shaking body and she instantly knew what had happened. Not a word needed to be spoken as she enveloped me in her arms. "I'm here, Ani...I'm right here!" She kept repeating to me as she brushed my sweaty hair from my forehead.
Her words calmed my thudding heart and I leaned into her touch. I was almost calm that is until two cries entered the room which startled me more than I'd like to admit. (y/n) promised she'd be back soon and she left me to take care of the twins.
When she returned she held 2 babies in her arms. I had calmed down enough where I held my hand out for one and I took Luke into my arms. "Hey buddy! Daddy's sorry!" I whispered to my son as I rocked him back to sleep.
I moved my arm and pat my thigh for my wife to sit on. (y/n) sat and I wrapped my arm around her waist. I glanced at my daughter and saw she had also fallen asleep in my wife's arms.
"What was it this time?" (y/n) asked in a whisper looking up at me with a loving and concerned gaze.
I leaned my forehead against hers as I spoke, "it started out like a typical battle with the 501st, but then at the end of the battlefield, you were there!" I begin to explain, "Palpatine had his lightsaber pointed at your belly and then he—then he—" I trailed off before staring down at our children. "Then he killed all three of you right in front of me—and all I could do was watch!" I finished looking up at her.
My wife's eyes remained expressionless as she thought my words over carefully. "That didn't happen, Anakin! It's not real!" She finally said and I nod.
"I know, but that's my worst fear. You getting hurt or worse—and me not being able to do anything about it!" I whisper not trying to wake our kids.
She nods, "I know, but Palpatine can't hurt us anymore, Windu killed him, and Obi Wan killed Grievous." She began to remind me. "You left the order after the war; we bought a secluded cottage on Naboo and I gave birth to two children, our children. That's reality, Anakin!" She explained, "your nightmares are a compilation of your worst fears, but that doesn't make them reality!" She said and I couldn't lie her logic was flawless, just like she was.
I leaned up and pressed my lips to hers softly, she was real, she was here, she was reality.
I looked down at our kids and I used the Force to feel their heartbeats. They were real, they were here, they were reality.
Her and our children were my reality.
