Character Bio

King Namor McKenzie, a.k.a. the Sub-Mariner, is the ruler of Atlantis. Born as a hybrid mutant son of a human father and an Atlantean princess, Namor's first interaction with the human world came when he joined the Invaders to fight against the Axis powers during World War II. Atlantis is home to a race of water-breathing beings. The Atlanteans do not look kindly upon the surface world, after explosions set off by an American ship demolished parts of the sunken nation and killed many of its people. Namor, despite having a human father, is encouraged by his Atlantean mother to be the scourge of the surface world.

Character background

The hybrid mutant son of an Atlantean and a human, Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner, is alternately loved and hated by Earth's surface population—often depending on his actions. As Atlantean royalty who defends his homeland fiercely, Namor has a massive chip on his shoulder. The pink-skinned mutant, Namor, was born among the blue-skinned Atlanteans. He became the Prince of Atlantis, and a warrior for his people against the "surface-dwellers". At some point, when Namor was a child, the people of Atlantis relocated and built a new kingdom near the Pacific Northwest. Namor is Mayan in the MCU, but officially belongs to the Talokanil race. The Talokanil are generally described to be a Yucatán-Mayan tribe who ingested vibranium-enriched plants after they were infected by smallpox. Half human and half Atlantean royalty, Namor is proud, quick-tempered, and willing to do anything to protect his kingdom.

Namor's mother ingested the plant when she was pregnant with him, resulting in his powerful abilities. The mutant son of a human sea captain and a princess of the mythical undersea kingdom of Atlantis, Namor possesses the super strength and aquatic abilities of the Homo mermanus race, as well as the mutant ability of flight, along with other superhuman powers. Namor is well-armed for his mission against mankind: He is super-humanly fast, strong and agile. He can fly, live on land or undersea, and communicate telepathically with sea life.

Personality

Namor often comes across as arrogant and prideful, a result of his royal upbringing. He is also known for his great temper, which was later revealed to be caused by his human-Atlantean metabolism. Namor is unforgiving and dismisses emotions, be it his own or other people's. Lacking tact, he is overly direct, often upsetting those he comes into contact with.
