Thanos, also known as The Mad Titan, is a Marvel super-villain. First appearing in The Invincible Iron Man #55 (1973), Thanos has fought against many notable superhero teams, including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Few villains rise to the level of infamy as Thanos, and recently the titan has dominated the big screen as the antagonist of both Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). A self-proclaimed savior seeking to restore balance to the universe, Thanos perceives himself as judge, jury, and executioner. Thanos's methodology is as simple as it is sinister-- collect the Infinity Stones and use their collective power to wipe out half of all living things in the cosmos.

Character Background

Thanos originates from Saturn's largest moon, Titan. The child of Eternals A'lars and Sui-San, Thanos had a happy childhood. However, as he grew older, he began to only feel satisfaction when causing death. This satisfaction would eventually lead him to fall in love with death itself-- in this case specifically Mistress Death. Wanting to prove his adoration to her, Thanos would soon devastate his home world and kill millions of his race. Thus began his universal reign of terror.
