The Last Thing I Did

Chapter 6

When Rea came home she immediately went into her room to let herself calm down. Trying to handle her gift and being Upper Alpha was already enough and now the fact that Benjamin is here ready to manipulate her was another dose of stress. She could feel her mother's worried emotions and hear her thoughts. Avery enjoyed seeing her struggle like this, she thought I'd mean that Rea would give up but that's not in Rea's nature. 

"Just admit it mom, If I'd be the Upper Alpha everything would have gone a lot smoother", Avery said to her mother. Her mother sighed and looked at Avery to check if she was being serious. "It wouldn't have been , Avery. I'd probably be a lot worse. Rea has been born for this and shows signs of a true leader and the Two Moon symbol can prove that", Daleyza said. "She can't even handle the stress, what a good leader she is", Avery said rolling her eyes. Avery always has been the one who got the attention from Daleyza when she was little and now Rea needed her mother Avery couldn't handle all the attention going to her. "How's it going in married life", Daleyza changed the subject. "I'm pregnant again", Avery said like it's a curse. "What's so wrong with that", Daleyza asked confused. "I've already had four children  and they are already so much work", she sighed frustrated. "Maybe you should consider taking birth control, you'd have less chance of having a sixth child after this one", Daleyza advised her.

"Are you doing okay", Daleyza asked as she opened up the door to Rea's room. She found her sitting on the ground staring in front of her. She waited a few seconds before asking something to Rea: "Did something happen today?"  Rea still didn't answer the question and just looked up at her mother for merely a second. She was thinking about all the possible scenarios that Benjamin could create within just a day. She had been trying to read his real emotions and search through his memories but her gift isn't developed enough and she hated herself for it. "Someone bad from the past has emerged from the deepest depths of Hell and is manipulating everyone around him including Dakota and it's threatening every single pack on this territory. He's out for revenge for what Deadlive and her bloodline did to him and I'm afraid he'll use everything against me to take his revenge", Rea explained to her mother. She knew that Daleyza wouldn't understand everything but she needed to tell someone because everything is weighing heavy on her shoulders. "What are the things that you can do about it", Daleyza asked her trying to ease her burden. "That's the thing mom, how do you fight something that's above the laws", Rea asked her. "He has found so many loopholes that I don't even know that we can stop him", she said with tears in her eyes. "Deadlive made me and left me with the burdens she had , how is that fair?"  Tears fell down her face but she wiped them away. "I also have trouble with my gift..and being Upper Alpha on top of that.. I just want to give up." Daleyza sat down beside her and laid an arm around her. "I know it's hard Rea and I know that I  won't ever know the struggle of such burdens but if you find your soulmate you could share it with him. It will also make your gift more controllable", Daleyza gave advice and Rea looked for a few seconds at her before laying her head on her mom's shoulder.

"Things seemed pretty tense with the Upper Alpha", Benjamin said to Dakota. "Yeah", Dakota sighed. "She just  doesn't like it when I don't discuss new pack members", he made up an excuse. Benjamin knew the truth though but Dakota doesn't know that. He always enjoyed being too good at manipulating people. "You guys seemed to have a connection", Benjamin mentions then and Dakota scoffs: "She's not my soulmate and she has made me that very clear." But Benjamin knew how the family Wolves would always deny a soulmate connection , afraid to get hurt. He liked the fact that Rea had so many characteristics from Deadlive, it would make his job very easy.  "I would just move on if I were you. Your pack will start wondering why you don't have a soulmate yet", Benjamin says then. If Rea doesn't get a soulmate connection then her powers will be forever uncontrollable and that's what Benjamin needs if he wants to take his revenge for everything the family Wolves has done to him. 

Memory of the day Benjamin escaped:

"Do you actually believe that you're going to break out", Falk asked Benjamin who's been trying to break the seal around his cell. "It would surprise you how many loopholes there are in the laws of the Supernatural , Falk.And I have always found them, or created them", Benjamin tells him. "You've been trying this for millennia why would it work now", Falk asked him then. "Everything can break with time and you should know that because you're the soulmate of Deadlive. The day you died was the day she finally broke", Benjamin says and then managed to break through the seal.  "Can you free me now", Falk asks as Benjamin walked out of his torture chamber. "You're not a part of my plan Falk, you'd only ruin things. Like you did when I was so close to taking Deadlive's role but then you ruined it", Benjamin told Falk before walking away. 

He took a deep breath as he entered Earth's atmosphere again and just before he could take it all in he could feel a punch on his face which made him fall to the ground. When he looked back up he saw Shaddix standing there and Benjamin chuckled. "So you're the one Deadlive sent down with her child. I should've known", he said and it angered Shaddix. The more Benjamin would speak the more chance you had of being brainwashed. "I'm not going to let you ruin her life Benjamin", Shaddix said and Benjamin looked with amusement at him. "The child is already cursed Shaddix. Nobody respects her in this world, she's probably going to carry the curse of the Deadwolf gene, she's going to lose you and everyday she will be asking Deadlive why she was sent to fix her crap. And now I am here to release her from her pain", Benjamin said before taking Shaddix by his throat. "I've changed a lot ,Shaddix. I recently got a new power, would you like to see", he said and shapeshifted to the form of Shaddix his soulmate: Amy. Shaddix lost the anger in his eyes and tears appeared and Benjamin took advantage of that and strengthened his grip. "Did you really think you could stop me", Benjamin chuckled as Shaddix is struggling to breathe. "If Deadlive wasn't able to then no one is."    "You'll never get to Rea, soon she'll meet her soulmate and then she's unstoppable. The Wolves bloodline will forever live on and make rid of people like you , she has Deadlive watching over her and she'll do anything to keep Rea safe from your manipulation", Shaddix mind-linked to him and Benjamin set his wolf-nails deep into him and left him for dead. 

Rea woke up from what seemed to be a memory from Benjamin. She knew that Benjamin must've sent it with the purpose to make her more vulnerable but for her it was a sign that she should start undertaking action. She'd need to confess the connection between Dakota and her which frightened her, but it would be the only way to start training her power and to ease the burdens by sharing them.

She knocked on Dakota's office and when he told her to come in she opened up the door and noticed a woman sitting on his lap. It felt like her heart fell into a thousand pieces and she got choked up. Dakota noticed it and it took all of his strength to not push the woman on his lap off of him. He knew that he needed to move on from whatever connection there was playing between Rea and him. Mostly for the sake of his people, his pack would get targeted because Rea is a woman Upper Alpha and there would be rebellions, he didn't want to be in the middle of it. 

"Is there Alpha business you wanted to discuss", Dakota asked her. "-I..could we talk in private for a  minute", she asked him and he told the woman to leave the room. As she was leaving the room she looked with narrowed eyes at Rea. "We both know that there's a connection between us.. and I just wa--", she got cut off by Dakota. He didn't want to hear her saying it, it would hurt him too much. "I don't want to explore the connection any further Rea", he said and she looked flabbergasted at him with tears burning in her eyes. "If we'd be soulmate you'd bring my pack in danger and I don't want that", he explained to her which only made her feel worse. "I, Dakota Volker, hereby reject you Rea Wolves as my soulmate."
