The Last Thing I Did

Chapter 18

It's been two days since the meeting and Rea has been keeping a close eye on Blake's territory, to make sure no one gives him any supplies. His pack is frustrated by the punishment Rea has given their Alpha and have been expressing their feelings towards Rea by giving her a dirty look as she walks by or even mutter words underneath their breath. But Rea couldn't care less who hates her and who likes her, everyone has to follow the rules and if they don't then there will be consequences.

"Has there been any update yet from Ross", Rea asked Voss. She's been anxiously waiting for a sign of Benjamin, he disappeared after their fight and she has no clue what might happen now. She knows that her Deadwolf venom is running through his veins and it can kill him or even turn him. And at this moment she doesn't know that's a good or a bad thing, because Deadwolves need to follow the rules of Nature if they don't they'll die a painful death. "No", Voss answered and she sighed. "He's probably healing and planning on what to do. I don't think he's going to attack soon, he doesn't have his puppet anymore". Rea looked at the woman on the hospital bed, strapped with all kinds of chains just in case she'd turned out to be alive. "At least we have his soulmate, who knows what he was planning with her", she says looking at the pale body. "Evelyn isn't actually that dangerous, at least she wasn't back in Deadlive's day. Benjamin used her more to distract us than something else", Voss said then. Rea looked confused at him for a few seconds and then remembered that he used to know Deadlive, before he died. "It's still strange that you're a thousand years old, you definitely don't look your age", she said. "Anyways, I'd be more comfortable if you tried searching for a sign of Benjamin. I just can't rest knowing he is out there somewhere."

Benjamin sighed frustrated as he arrived at his old hide out that no one ever found. "That damn woman! Did she really have to bite me", he muttered to himself. He took care of the bite wound and was even more frustrated when he noticed that the bite was deep enough to make him a Deadwolf. He took out an injection which was Nature-wolf blood and injected it into the bite wound. "If she only understood that we want the same things", he sighed. The things Benjamin has all been through just to get what he wants is all unbelievable.

Before he started his mission to kill his family: the Wolves family, he was actually a scientist wanting to create something brand new, so that the world would know his name. He has always been interested in finding a cure for cancer, like most of the scientists. When he noticed that a species other than humankind could be created he started to experiment on his son: Fenrir Wolves. His son turned out to be the first Werewolf but also the strongest , he started to form a pack and soon werewolves started to form over the whole world. Eventually Benjamin his name was known to the world but just as a mad scientist who could not control his experiments. He noticed that his creations were unpredictable and uncontrollable, he did not want to be known as the scientist who doomed the world with his creations, so he had to find a way to eliminate them. To undo his mistakes Benjamin tempered with the Supernatural some more and made him and his wife vampires, thinking that he could destroy his creations that way. But then Deadlive Wolves was born and that changed everything: the first evolution from the werewolf: a Deadwolf with amazing, deadly powers. That was the moment that Benjamin realized he should eliminate fire with fire: he made himself a new kind of Werewolf , with more abilities than the Deadwolf but when he tried to kill Deadlive, it turned out he wasn't strong enough. Before he could experiment further , Deadlive found a way to lock him up in Hell, until he found a way out and now we are here. He is still fighting to undo the creations he has made.

"How many children is Deadlive going to keep throwing at me, it's working on my goddamn nerves! Especially this one. Rea is something entirely different from the others, more evolved. How interesting as her evolution may be, I need to kill her before she makes a new generation of Wolves, because then this cycle will never be done".

"Voss, you're already back", Ross said with surprise. "Rea wants me to stay here until we have a clue of Benjamin", he explained to him. Voss looked around to see that everything still is the same as he had left a few months ago which he found strange. "Haven't you moved camp yet", he asked Ross confused. He shook his head. "I can't at the moment. Avery is pregnant and I don't want to risk her health nor the baby's health", he explained and Voss looked with raised eyebrows at him. "Are you that surprised", he chuckled. "I just didn't see you as the person who would settle down for someone. Anyways, congrats", Voss said, joining the others at the campfire.

"I heard what happened at Dakota's territory with Rea. How is she doing", Ross asked. At that moment Avery also joined them at the campfire, she seems to be quite far in her pregnancy. "She seems to be doing fine..but I can't really tell if she's truly doing fine. Rea doesn't show much emotion. She's definitely acting differently since Benjamin experimented on her", Voss answered. "Have the Alpha's already accepted her, without their support I'll be a hard battle for her", he asked then. "There is one that seems to accept her position. But the others only seem to search for ways to make her give up the title, and it's annoying her. She hasn't been sleeping in days", Voss told them. "Are you two soulmates", Avery asked then and everyone went silent. "It's just that you seem to care about her a lot." All eyes were on Voss, this is a subject that he does not like to discuss and the others know about this, except for Avery. "She's not my soulmate. She can't be, mine died a long time ago", Voss said and then no one said anything anymore.

"What am I to do", Rea asked, standing before Shaddix's grave. "I know that you believed I'd be able to beat Benjamin, but right now the only option I see, the only one that will successfully stop him is destroying this world. Benjamin can't return to the world if there isn't one."  

 She heard footsteps approaching behind her and she turned herself in that direction. "Sully, what are you doing here",  she asked confused. She had sent him and Voss back to Ross. "I'm here to protect you, since Benjamin is nowhere to be found", he said. Rea stared at him for a few seconds, trying to read his mind.  Is he really disobeying her orders? "Where is Voss", she asked, subtle watching his body language. "He's doing a border control check up, to guarantee your safety", he answered her question. She nodded understanding and then took him by his throat. "I already thought it was strange that Ross recruited someone new into his pack", she says strengthening her grip around his neck. "This little game of yours is over, Benjamin." He gets a confused look on his face:  "My name is Sully", he says. Rea did not believe a thing this man said, he's always been gone when Benjamin was here, like with the attack on Dakota's territory. She rips his shirt at his shoulders and that reveals the bite Rea gave to Benjamin. "Ross didn't have someone named  Sully in his pack before", she says and then he gives up and changes back to his normal form. "I didn't think you'd find out", he says gasping for air. "What brings you here Benjamin. It's nothing like you to be this reckless", she says and he grins amused. Rea knew him well, which may show signs that Benjamin has been reckless. "I had hoped you'd prefer 'Sully' as your right hand man than Voss, but I had that wrong. I should've just killed Voss and shapeshifted into him", he says and Rea only strengthens her grip even more. Rea got a glimpse of his thoughts and she shook her head. "Why are you risking your life here", she asked him and his grin turned into a smile. "I missed toying with you", he tells her but she feels that he's not telling the truth. Her wolf nails grow and she sets them deep into his neck and he growls because of the pain. Through the wounds in his neck she poisons him with the deadly poison that's running through her veins. By the look in Benjamin's eyes you could see that he's turning fearful. "You'll never manage to kill me this easily, no one has ever managed it", he says but Rea wasn't listening to him right now, she was listening to her wolf instincts. As Benjamin felt the poison spread in his blood he was beginning to panic and tried getting out of her grip. The look of determination that Rea had in her eyes right now, was freaking him out. She walked towards the dungeons with her grip still being around his throat and locked him up in the cell before his soulmate. "By the time you've found a way to escape you'll be dead", she says before leaving him.
