Halloween Sleepover

Back to our common rooms we go, I head toward mine, dropping Alex off along the way. Though, a crowd of people stop us in our tracks just before we can reach the Gryffindor common room. "What's going on?" I hear Harry ask from in front of us. "Probably Neville's forgotten the password again." Ron teases. "Hey!" Neville speaks up from beside me. "Oh! You're there." Ron chuckles with a grin. "Let me through, please! Excuse me! I'm HEAD BOY!" An annoying voice rings out from the stairs above us. "Get back, all of you. No one is to enter this dormitory until it's been fully searched." He instructs. I stand on my toes, though I can't see what's going on beyond the heads of students. Ginny pushes through the crowd from the front, finding Harry, Ron and Hermione. "The Fat Lady, she's gone!" She exclaims, obviously scared. "Serves her right. She was a terrible singer." Ron utters. "It's not funny, Ron." Hermione shouts back. The portraits hanging along the walls all cry and wail, a discourse among the paintings.

"Make way! Make way! The headmaster's here!" Filch demands, following Dumbledore up the stairs as we part ways to let them through. I manage to sneak a peek at the portrait, or.. lack there of. There are three giant gashes through the painting, making its way into the wood behind. "Mr. Filch, round up the ghosts. Tell them to search every painting in the castle to find the Fat Lady." Dumbledore requests, though Filch stands still. "There's no need for ghosts, Professor. The Fat Lady's there." He says, pointing to a portrait on the floor above. As nosey as we all are, we follow Dumbledore up the steps, pushing past Percy Weasley. "Mind where you're going! Slow down! You listen! I'm HEAD BOY!

"Dear Lady, who did this to you?" Dumbledore asks calmly. The lady peers over a grazing hippo, eyes filled with tears. "Eyes like the devil, he's got, and a soul as dark as his name. It's him, headmaster. The one they all talk about. He's here, somewhere in the castle.. Sirius Black!" She shrieks, sliding back down behind the hippo. Dumbledore looks down at us, a frown on his face. "Secure the castle, Mr. Filch. The rest of you, to the Great Hall." I look to Alex, who surprisingly has a smile on his face. "What's got you so chipper?" I ask as we're ushered back down the stairs. "Sleepover." He chuckles.

We head to the Great Hall, where different coloured sleeping bags already coat the floor. Each colour for each house. That means the rest of the houses will be sleeping in here, too. So this really will be like a sleepover! Soon the other students pile in and Asteria, Alex and I find a spot near the Weasley twins, Harry, Ron and Hermione. And it isn't too long before the Professors order the lights out. I get into my sleeping bag between Alex and Asteria, making myself as comfortable as I can on the hard wooden floor. I look up at the ceiling, which has been bewitched to look like a galaxy with shining stars, planets and nebula, a lovely way to fall asleep. I hear Asteria and the twins have a conversation among themselves, and Alex chatting up Hermione. I sigh softly to myself, watching the shooting stars above. Soon I hear a few 'goodnight's around me, one coming from Alex. "Goodnight, Atticus." He says sleepily. "Night Alex.." I reply, lost in my own thoughts.

Soon, one by one, the students all begin to fall asleep. I roll over, unable to find a comfortable way to sleep, then I hear a few voices walking past. "I've searched the Astronomy Tower and the Owlery. There's nothing there." Filch reports. "Thank you." Dumbledore responds. "The third floor's clear, too, sir." Flitwick announces. "Very good." Dumbledore replies. "I've done the dungeons, Headmaster. No sign of Black, nor anywhere else in the castle." Snape communicates. "I didn't really expect him to linger." Dumbledore speaks, a hint of humour in his voice. "A remarkable feat, don't you think? To enter Hogwarts Castle on one's own completely undetected?" Snape asks, seemingly dumbfounded. "Quite remarkable, yes." Dumbledore replies, this time a hint of admiration of sorts. "Any theories on how he might have managed it?" Snape inquires. "Many. Each as unlikely as the next." Dumbledore answers.

"You may recall... prior to the start of term, I'd expressed concerns about your appointment of Professor-" Snape starts before being cut off by Dumbledore. "Not a single professor inside this castle would help Sirius Black to enter it. I'm quite convinced the castle is safe, and I'm more than willing to send the students back to their houses." "What about Potter? Should he be warned?" Snape queries. "Perhaps. But for now, let him sleep. For in dreams we enter a world that's entirely our own. Let them swim in the deepest ocean or glide over the highest cloud."

A/N: I just wanted to put a little note here. I found out the other night that our dear actor for Dumbledore has passed.

Rest in peace, Sir Michael Gambon. ♥ I hope you, Alan Rickman and Robbie Coltraine are making magic together wherever you are now ♥
