Eugene's POV

~~~
I left El for her to sleep. She needed the rest.
I was somewhat surprised when I gave her my blood. Normally, humans die when consuming a vampire's blood, but she did not.
At the time, I thought she would survive. I was right.
Perhaps fate has led us together.
Her gaze never left my mind. It reminded me so much of Ellenior, my sister. Has Ellenior's ghost inhabited the poor young girl?
"Master Sinclaire," Frey crossed his arms, "are you really going to keep that girl?"
"Yes," I replied, "she is now my family."
"Of course, he is going to keep her, Frey," Maya stepped in between Frey and I. She pressed her hands down on her red dress. "No normal human would survive a blood bond like she did. And you are being disrespectful to Master Heliosinclaire." She glared at him, as if ready to attack the man.
I rested my hand on her shoulder, "it is alright, Maya."
The light was a bit bright in the room, so I dimmed it with a wave of my hand. "We shall depart on the morrow after the girl wakes."
I left the chambers and entered the main hall, looking out the window and viewing the garden lit by the sun's light.
El.
I'm sure the girl didn't tell me her true name. I could taste it through her gaze.
It was alright, though.
She will grow accustomed to my presence and begin to open up.
I headed towards the entrance where Lucius stood.
He placed his hand on his chest and bowed, "Master Heliosinclaire."
"Ready the horses, Lucius. I will be leaving to see the girl's family," I said.
Ariel's POV
I woke with a start.
That infuriating vampire.
His voice was all it took to make me vulnerable. I could feel my comfort subsiding as I tried to get up towards the door.
There was something about his voice that made me lose control of my mind, rendering me limp.
It was too soothing.
Pressing my ears against the door, I tried to hear anyone beyond the room.
I heard mumbling through the door. Drats. I couldn't escape with vampires in the vicinity.
I tried to look around the room for some sort of sharp object. Maybe I can stab the vampires and escape.
Hell! They make me furious.
They killed our townsfolk who did nothing wrong. Monsters.
The door opened and a familiar grin was the focus of my gaze.
"I could hear you shuffling about, little lamb," it was one of the vampires called Frey. "Shall we have small chit chat to cure your boredom?"
I stepped back. He was the one I shot in the head. To my disappointment, he lived.
"What's wrong, sugar cube?" Frey stepped closer, "all I want to do is talk with you." His bared his fangs as he smiled.
I grabbed the sheets from the bed. Maybe I can cover him with these and escape.
No... Vampires are fast and nimble. I couldn't do anything without my pistol.
"I can see why Master Sinclaire is fond of you," Frey tilted his head to the side, his eyes smiling. "You have the same color eyes as his."
What would the same color eyes have to do with anything?
Frey leaned against the doorway, "You see, Master Sinclaire has experienced tragedy. He lost his whole family in a fire."
He stepped closer.
I had my back against the wall.
He walked towards me.
"His whole family had the same color eyes as you do." Frey inched even closer to the point where I could feel his breath on my face. It smelled like blood. "Maybe he felt nostalgic looking at you and your eye—"
"FREY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
A young woman with her red dress punched Frey's head down hard. He fell to the floor.
"I deeply apologize for this man's behavior, Miss Heliosinclaire," she bowed deeply while wrangling Frey with one arm.
The woman in red curtsied, "my name is Maya Allister. Frey and I will be your guards as we return to the homeland."
Frey escaped Maya's grasp, "Don't hit me so hard, Maya! Don't you want to know how she tastes?"
I glared at him. There's no way I'm going to let him drink from me.
"You imbeci—" Maya smacked him again and he fell to the floor once more.
I was enjoying this.
Frey staggered as he got up and headed for the door, "Heliosinclaire blood is known to be divine. I just wanted to know what it tasted like."
"You can't drink Master Heliosinclaire's blood, so you go for this one?" Maya asked aggressively.
Frey shrugged his shoulders and left while Maya followed.
I was left alone in the room.
This was my chance to escape.
