Chapter 1 - A Cold Night in Red

~~~
The vampires were everywhere.
Ariel could hear them close by as she tried to hide in the dark alleyways, away from the main streets that the vampires preferred to hunt in.
Unfortunately, one of them grabbed her arm, reeling her closer to their fangs.
She picked up a broken glass bottle and stabbed their eyes.
The vampire screamed in agony as Ariel ran off as fast as she could.
Why was it when she decided to take a leisurely stroll in the dark that the vampires had to appear?
Her town was a village that the vampires tended to ignore because there were many old folk who lived here. Old blood did not taste as food as the young.
Angrily, Ariel entered a garden, hiding in the rose bushes to mask her scent. She tried to control her breathing.
"I found one~"
To her dismay, a group of vampires were relaxing in the garden as one of them, a lanky male vampire with brown locks and a scar marked over his face stepped closer to her.
"A clever one this human is. To hide in such a perfumey garden," he hovered over Ariel.
She attempted to run away, but the vampire caught her leg, forcing her to fall hard onto the marble pavement. He snickered.
She scratched her wrists and noticed blood trickling down her arm. She held her wrists close to her chest, trying to hide the scent of the blood.
"Mmmmm~ This one smells delicious."
Just as the vampires were about to bite into Ariel, she gripped the thorny rose vines and revealed a gun.
She shot at the vampire who staggered back as blood profusely flowed from his temple.
Ariel fled the scene as the vampires behind him started to laugh at how he let her get away.
They didn't seem to be following her, Ariel thought. She's lucky to be alive thanks to Uncle's pistol.
Although alive, her blood still perforated into the air. Oh holy Mary, please protect me, she thought.
Ariel tripped over some stones and fell face flat on the ground.
She hurriedly stood back up and met face to face with another vampire.
His glass blue eyes glowed in the dark as he stepped closer to Ariel.
He noticed that she too had glass blue eyes... but was not a vampire like him. Who was she?
He stretched out his hand to help the girl, seemingly 16 years of age, to stand up, "You... What is your name?"
Ariel knew that vampires all had red eyes, but this man did not, and she just knew that he was a vampire.
His frosty gaze made her freeze, unable to take an inch back.
Again, he asked, "what is your name?"
This time, Ariel shot off, running breathlessly into the night.
The glass blue eyed man stood there in silence, watching her silhouette fade away in the dark.
Ariel thought of how she was going to die as she sprinted. Her bloody aroma gave off her location and a few red eyed vampires appeared out of nowhere.
They tore through her skin as she screamed, but she shot their chests with her pistol. One of them missed as the angry vampire dealt a lethal blow.
She mustered the last of her strength to shoot the remaining vampire in the heart.
The vampire fell to the ground. Lucky shot. Thank God she took lessons.
But she wasn't so lucky as her blood wouldn't stop flowing out.
She laid on the ground, limp and cold, hoping that her sister was alive and safe from the wretched creatures.
Her vision became hazy but clear enough to watch a man with dark hair lean towards her, picking up her body.
"I can't have you dying here tonight," he said.
It was the same man with glass blue eyes as hers, but he was a vampire.
She tried to raise her pistol towards his chest and shoot him, but she was out of bullets.
"My name is Eugene," the vampire whispered as he bit into Ariel's arm, sucking a bit of her blood.
She winced, so I'm going to be eaten after all.
He slowly walked towards a tree, placing her there beneath it.
I'm going to die, she thought. Her breath was leaving her as she felt cold and light-headed.
Eugene cut his palm, sucking in some of his blood into his mouth.
He cupped Ariel's face and began to kiss her, which she struggled with, trying to push him away.
Eugene's strength was too strong, and she gave up, relaxing her muscles as he opened up her mouth with his own, allowing his blood to trickle down her throat.
Her eyes widened and her whole body convulsed.
Eugene was turning her into a vampire.
