Ariel's POV
~~~
Frey waved the papers in the air as he walked towards the stairway, "I have papers to deliver to the Master. Care to join me? We can chat about vampires afterwards."
Great.
With a skip, I followed Frey to the lower level, pacing behind him as we weaved our way through the corridors, finally reaching Eugene's study.
Frey knocked on the door, and then carefully opened it.
Eugene was looking through some documents, taking notes on a piece of paper on the side. He looked up.
"Hello Ariel. Frey."
"Good evening, Master Sinclaire. I've brought letters from Underwood and the Tristans."
"The Tristans?" Eugene placed his documents on his desk.
From Franz's family?
Eugene took the letters and held them close to the desk, reading them thoroughly, "the Tristans wish to invite you to some tea, Ariel." Eugene looked up at me, "would you like to attend?"
Fancy afternoon tea?
Or evening tea? What was it?
I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to another vampire's estate, "um... I'm not sure."
Eugene smiled gently, "there's no need to go if you do not wish to. Would you like Frey to accompany you?"
If Frey was with me, then I wouldn't mind, I guess.
"Franz has taken a liking to the lady, Master Sinclaire," Frey said.
"Is that so..." Eugene read through the letter again. "Why don't you go, Ariel? You can acquaint yourself with other members of the society. Perhaps you will learn something from it."
"Okay," I said.
"Very well," Eugene tossed the letters to the side, "please prepare for her departure in three days, Frey."
"Yes, my lord."
With that, Frey headed towards the exit. I was about to follow until Eugene spoke up.
"Ariel. Would you please accompany me for a bit? I would like to chat."
Oh, man.
I peeked towards Frey, who winked as if to say good luck. He left me alone with Eugene. We were in total silence.
I turned towards him and sat on a stool by the bookshelves.
"How have you been feeling, Ariel?"
"Huh?" I felt nervous. I didn't know how to act in front of an old progenitor, father of the vampires, who was polite to someone such as myself. I've never met anyone like him. A mysterious man.
He waited patiently.
"Oh um... I feel alright. Everyone is very respectful towards me and I enjoy my time here."
"Is that so," he kept watching me as I glanced towards a bookshelf.
My life was full of hardship, keeping my sister, grandma, and uncle fed as I worked in the village. I would never feel uneasy, always determining what to do based on the facts and whatever logic I had to keep in my head to survive. But this vampire...
Eugene made me feel nervous even though his aura was calming.
"Do you have any questions for me, Ariel?" he smiled. "Usually, new bloods have many."
"Um... Then what is a blood bond?"
He leaned back on his chair, "a blood bond is when a vampire offers his blood to a human or another vampire. They fuse their blood together until the blood becomes unified, thus a bond is formed."
Pretty self explanatory...
"I believe that you are almost done with yours. Do you feel any thirst?"
"Not really..."
"Then it is finished. Heliosinclaires do not usually feel much thirst after a blood bond unless they are injured or sick."
Then I don't need to drink blood?
"Although controlled, our thirst does appear after a couple of weeks. It also varies by individual."
Eugene stood up, "do you have any more questions?"
"Um... Now that I'm part of your family... What am I? Am I... Your daughter?"
"You could be my daughter if you so wish... Or my sister... Cousin... Niece... A close friend."
He paused. "Or perhaps, you'd like to be my lover?"
I widened my eyes, feeling myself blush.
"I jest. Just teasing," he smiled.
I looked to my side, trying to find something to stare at. This man this man.
"You may leave and continue your discussions with Frey," Eugene said.
"Okay," was all I could articulate.
I left the study, running off to find Frey.
How did he know that Frey and I were having a discussion?
I found Frey leaning on an end table in the hallway. He noticed me and waved.
I ran towards him, "Frey, can Eugene read minds?"
"He can also read emotions," he said.
I felt my face turn red. Frey chuckled.
