Ariel's POV

Eugene's state in the north. The Ambiverry Continent.

~~~
It took us several days to arrive at the Ambiverry continent. We had to travel by carriage during the night to avoid the eyes of other humans.
As the carriage stopped to a halt, Eugene, who sat next to me, took my hand.
"This will be your new home," he gave a gentle smile.
We both got off of the carriage.
Frey and Maya were carrying our luggage, both arguing about where to place our items in the estate.
I learned that Frey was recently hired as a butler to the Heliosinclaire estate. Eugene had to travel to the Courinar continent where I lived to meet up with him.
As I walked towards the estate, I noticed how there were a lack of trees. Everything was covered in flowers, which permeated the air with perfume. I couldn't smell anything else.
There were other vampires in the estate, some as butlers, maids, and gardeners. They all greeted Eugene as we entered the mansion.
"Greetings," Eugene placed his hand on my shoulder, "I would like to introduce Ariel, a new Heliosinclaire – a member of my esteemed family."
The maids and butlers bowed, staring at me in the process. It was uncomfortable. I could feel them all judging me.
It's not like I wanted to be a vampire in the first place.
"Maya," Eugene faced towards the girl, "please take care of her for me."
"Yes, my lord," Maya guided me up the stairs and towards a beautifully decorated hall. We walked past the mirrors and vases, then into a large chamber fitted with a Victorian bed, dressers, cabinets, everything that seemed to appear out of a fantasy novel.
Maya grabbed onto my dress and began to undress me.
"Wh-" I tried to fight back.
"We must change you into more appropriate clothing. You will be introduced to the society as a member of Master Heliosinclaire's family. I cannot have you disgracing his name," Maya undressed me, measured my body, then headed towards the door.
"Stay here, my lady! I will be back soon."
She left.
I sat on the bed.
Now that I think on it, I happened to meet Eugene who seemed to be more polite than the other vampires. Had I met anyone else, I may have ended up in a ditch somewhere, dead.
He seemed like a nice man...
No. What am I thinking? Vampires kill and eat humans. I can't trust a vampire.
And I turned into one, too...
I began to cry, burrowing my face into my arms. I didn't want to eat humans. I don't want to be a vampire. I don't want to be a monster.
"Ariel."
I quickly turned to see Eugene by the door.
"What is making you so upset?" He sat next to me. "Is there anything I can do to make it better?"
No.
"Would you like to go walk in the garden?"
I wiped the tears from my face. Crying won't do me any good. I have to figure out what to do.
"Eugene..." I couldn't look at him. "Do I have to kill humans and drink their blood?"
He was silent and still.
"Is there another way for a vampire to eat? Do they only drink blood? Can vampires eat food like humans?"
I turned to him, hoping for an alternate option. Please.
He stared into my eyes. I could see my tired face in their reflection.
"Vampires can only drink blood to survive, Ariel. They do not eat food like humans."
I felt dread and looked down onto the floor. I could feel Eugene's stare boring into my face.
He swiped a piece of hair from my cheek, placing it on the back of my ear.
"If you'd like," he smiled, "you can drink my blood instead."
I faced him with eyes open wide.
"That way, you do not need to drink from any humans," he gave a gentle smile.
