Ariel's POV

~~~
Vampires of all ages gathered in the ballroom, all with blood red eyes.
I walked down the staircase which led to the ballroom and stopped halfway.
Everyone bowed as I turned my head to see Eugene arriving in a dark suit with a red rose in his chest pocket. He raised his hand.
All of the vampires resumed to their discussions and mingled.
Eugene placed his hand on my head, "Ariel, I will be introducing you to several people, so please be patient with me."
I nodded.
"Then this way," he led me to an old man with a majestic grey beard.
His eyes were sharp and a bit terrifying as if they were about consume you due to fear. The old man stretched out his hand towards Eugene, "Master Heliosinclaire" They shook hands.
Eugene pat his hand on my back, bringing me closer to the old man, "this is Ariel. My new blood."
"Ah. I had heard the rumors," the old man raised his hand and bowed, "my name is Charles Underwood. An old friend of Master Heliosinclaire's father."
Eugene's father... If Eugene is the progenitor, then does that make his father a progenitor as well?
"No, Master Heliosinclaire's father was his adopted father who is much younger."
Eugene is older than his father??
"Yes, my lady."
He's reading my mind?!
"Hahaha," Mr. Underwood stroked his beard, "quite an adorable young lady she is, ay, Master Sinclaire?"
Eugene smiled.
How old is he?!
"That I do not know," Mr. Underwood chuckled. He looked to the side. "It was a delight to have met you, Lady Ariel." He bowed again and nodded to Eugene, who nodded back. "I must go now, please excuse me. Master Heliosinclaire. My lady."
Mr. Underwood left us and merged with the crowd.
"Lord Underwood is in charge of collecting human blood and distributing it to other families," Eugene spoke as we approached another vampire. "he is the reason why we all stay sane."
Eugene held me close.
He introduced me to several vampires as Frey stood close by. I noticed how stoic Frey was from his usual demeanor. He seemed more serious.
A few hours passed and I could already feel my legs cramping. The heels were not helping either.
"Would you like to rest, Ariel?" Eugene guided me towards a corner in the ballroom. There was a chair.
"Yes, thank you," I sat on the chair and relaxed.
"Please wait here until I finish some business."
I nodded as Eugene disappeared into the crowd. Frey stood close by, staring towards the exit.
He suddenly leaned in close, "vampires are only as strong as humans, but they are very quick. Each vampire also has a few tricks and abilities." I noticed a faint smell of blood in the air amongst the smells of roses from the garden.
I noticed Frey holding onto his dagger sheathed under his belt, "my ability is to sense others from far distances. Lord Underwood and Lucius can read minds."
"What's wrong?" Why is he so serious.
Frey continued, "others have different abilities depending on their families and personality. I want you to be wary of those who are here and those who may be far off." He glared towards the exit. "Wait here."
With that, Frey stepped through the crowd. I couldn't see him anymore and the faint smell of blood disappeared.
I have to be wary?
Is it because I have delicious blood now? Why would someone want to cause me any danger? Is it because I was once a human?
I sighed as I stared at the crowd. These vampires are stunning.
They can be eternally beautiful. How vexing. Wait.
If I'm a vampire, does that mean that I can live eternally as well?
But wasn't Mr. Underwood an old man? How does aging work with vampires?
"Good evening."
I looked up to see a dashing young man with fair hair and scsarlet red eyes. He was even more stunning than the others.
"Good evening," I gasped.
He laughed shyly, "I was watching you from a distance and wanted to chat... But your butler's fierce demeanor would not let me approach you."
I stood up with a smile, "well it's a pleasure to meet you."
"The pleasure is mine," he smiled back. "I presume that you must be Lady Ariel? I apologize for using your name, it just has a wonderful ring to it, like the goddess of the winds."
I couldn't help but stare at him. He was gorgeous. His long lashes and chiseled face made him seem as if he were some sort of demigod descended from the heavens.
"My lady?"
"Oh! Um, yes. Thank you."
He chuckled, "Well, my name is Francesco Tristan. You can call me Franz. Uh, may I ask, my lady?"
"Ask what?"
"You seem to be worn down. Are you parched?"
Actually, I was a bit thirsty. I wanted to drink some of Eugene's blood in a while.
Franz made a small cut on his palm with his sharp fingernail, "if you don't mind, would you like to drink some of mine?"
I stared at his blood, feeling some sort of hunger emerge from me.
Suddenly, a hand grabbed Franz's wrist, stopping him from offering his blood.
It was Frey.
"Please excuse me, Sir Tristan. The lady has yet to finish her blood bond with the Master."
They both stared each other down.
"Well, I will leave you for now, my lady," Franz took my hand and kissed it, leaving me and Frey in the corner.
Frey scoffed, "what are you a dog that eats food from anyone?"
I glared at him.
