Franz Tristan's POV

~~~
What a dreary day.
Staying cooped up in the mansion left me bored out of my wits.
If only I had invited the Heliosinclaire girl to the estate, then I wouldn't have to suffer in such a dull room.
She was quite the beauty, but not as beautiful as me.
"Franz," a voice echoed in the chamber.
"Yes, father," I stepped to the side.
"How was the soirée at the Heliosinclaire's estate?" My father, a man who looked about 50 years of age appeared out of thin air. He walked dominantly as his golden cloak swayed with each step. He loved his gold.
"Uneventful, though I did happen to meet the Master's new blood."
"New blood?" he spoke, "interesting." He stroked his beard, peering to the side, "I wonder if we have to set their estate on fire again."
"For just one girl?"
"Not just one girl, one human girl."
"She isn't even a human, she was turned a few weeks ago."
"But she was once human," my father spat, "the Master could have blooded a fellow vampire, but he chose a human."
I frowned, "but she has no influence on our house in her current state." And I liked her.
"Franz," he scowled, "this is why you cannot become head of our house yet. You lack the ability to see into the future. She may not have any influence now, but she may bear Heliosinclaire children who will become powerful and bring influence on our society."
I never liked my father.
He was too extreme. Setting the Heliosinclaire estate ablaze years back had justified my contempt towards him.
He reasoned that the Heliosinclaires had too much power. And they were too kind to the humans, who were of an inferior race. We killed many humans to quench our thirst, but the Heliosinclaires drank very little. They seemed to have control of their thirst compared to us normal vampires.
"Father. If I may propose, perhaps we can simply watch the new blood from the side. There is no need to kill her."
"The damned purebloods killed your mother!"
I winced.
My father was in a rage, "all Rose did was capture a few humans and drank their blood. That was it! But the Heliosinclaires thought that to be irredeemable and decided to cut her off from society. Your mother did nothing wrong! Then she took her own life!"
Actually, she killed many humans, collecting their blood for her parties. I never liked my mother either. She was too engrossed in her reputation and stature in society, neglecting me for her own personal gains.
I cleared my throat.
"What if," I said, "I was to betroth to the Heliosinclaire girl?"
My father turned his head.
"That way, the Tristan house could obtain some of their power and influence."
My father laughed, "an idea I would never have thought of!" Of course. Malice was your only drive. He firmly grasped my shoulders, staring into my eyes with a smile, "maybe you do have some sort of intelligence in that empty head of yours, Franz."
I do detest this man.
"However, I never did like the Heliosinclaires," he said, walking to and fro in the room, "they would look down on us as if we were pigs."
"Perhaps it is your imagination?" I said.
"No."
My father paced to the window, looking out into the distance.
"They would never attend any of our events. They've even disrespected your mother, ignoring her letters for invitations to tea. They viewed us with scorn, as if we were the ones beneath society even though it was supposed to be the humans. They viewed us lower than those humans!"
I sighed.
My father was a mess. The society would treat him with respect, but I knew that secretly they deemed him as a buffoon. His ideals were too extreme and he never learned to cooperate with others. He would never attempt to settle into a peaceful agreement with his enemies. All he knew was to eradicate those in his way if he deemed them too dangerous.
I picked up my pocket watch sitting on a desk, "it is time for me to meet with Lord Underwood. We seem to be low on blood."
"Franz, don't rely on Underwood for blood so often. Why not join me and go out for a hunt? The blood is fresher. Only those like the Heliosinclaires obtain old blood from the Underwoods."
Hunting made me feel like an animal.
"Please pardon me, father. I would rather enjoy a cup of blood in peace than go exerting myself in the night."
I stepped out of the room, marching down the hallways.
Finally, I am away from that man.
I wonder how Ariel is faring... I'd like to meet her again.
How should I make her mine?
I smiled.
