Ariel's POV
~~~
A few more minutes have passed and I could see Eugene in the distance chatting with the vampires.
Many others have already left as midnight approached.
"I'm so bored," I said.
"You really say whatever's on your mind, don't you?" Frey smiled with a strain. "Oh, look. The Master is approaching."
Eugene stepped between us and placed his hand on my cheek, "you seem famished. Are you alright?"
I awkwardly smiled, "I'm okay, just a little hungry."
"Then let me take you to my office."
He took my hand and led the way, "Frey, how was your patrol?"
Frey paced behind us, "I missed a figure in the garden. They disappeared before I could catch them."
"I see..." We stepped into a room with books and papers all piled on the floor and a messy desk. "Then please see to it."
"Yes, my lord." Frey left the room as I looked around, noticing some books with different languages.
"Is this your study?" I asked, picking up a book. Recipes for the Undead. Huh.
"Yes, it is my office where I handle some documents," Eugene picked up a vial. "Do you think you can drink some of this?"
I turned to see and smell the burgundy color of blood. I can drink from a bottle? Not a human?
"I don't have to kill humans to drink their blood?"
"Well, Ariel... This is blood from a human we've acquired with some force."
Some force... It was better than drinking from someone's neck, but still...
Eugene placed the vial back on his desk, "then, would you like to drink from me?" He opened his collar and revealed his pale skin. I could smell his blood from underneath his skin. It smelled divine.
I gulped.
Eugene stared at me until I shuffled from my position awkwardly, "uh... I don't feel as hungry."
He took an empty vial and cut his finger. Blood dripped from it into the vial.
He gave me the vial, "you can drink from here."
I took the vial and stared at his blood, then stared back at him. The wound from his finger already healed.
"Thank you..." I took the vial and drank his blood. Amazing. Just a few drops could make me feel satiated, but it wasn't as good as drinking from his neck.
What?
I blushed, thinking about it.
"Everyone in the ballroom was staring in your direction," Eugene closed the vials and looked through his documents.
I hadn't noticed.
I was too preoccupied with controlling my hunger for Eugene's blood during our conversations with the other vampires.
So, this is what it means to be a vampire. To hunger for another's blood.
Eugene placed his hand on the side of my arm, caressing me closely, "I can smell someone else one you. Who is it?"
I shuddered. Vampires are fast and appear out of nowhere. I couldn't even see him approach me so quickly.
Hesitantly, I gave an answer, "It was Franz Tristan."
"Hm, Francesco Tristan," Eugene let me go and sat on a lounge chair. "He has sharp ears."
Eugene motioned me to sit beside him, so I took a chair close by and made myself comfortable.
"What happened to the necklace I gave you?"
The necklace?
Oh.
The pretty stone that was sapphire blue.
"I left it in my room," I said in a small voice. Will he get angry?
Eugene just smiled, "next time, keep it with you. It is a protective charm."
"Okay."
We chatted for a bit. Some about the mansion, about the workers, and other topics about vampire society. Eugene asked if I wanted to return to my room.
I nodded and let him take my hand. We walked past a few rooms and arrived in mine.
Where was the necklace? Ah.
I headed towards the dresser and picked up the stone necklace, showing it to Eugene, "it's this, right?"
"Yes, it is."
He approached me and unclipped the diamond necklace I was wearing, and then he placed the blue stone one around my neck.
We stood in silence for a moment.
I could hear my heart pounding.
Why am I getting embarrassed?? Am I a little girl in love? I guess he's handsome, but he's so old!
"Eugene?"
Eugene led me to the mirror, we stared at it for a while as he gently held my shoulders.
"How old are you?"
He smiled, "I've had some years."
"Well, you look to be about 25."
"Haha," he held my hair and brushed it gently. "Is there anything you'd like? Anything at all?"
I stared at my reflection, then at Eugene. He looked pristine.
I hesitated.
Would it be alright to ask?
"Could I see my family?"
Eugene smiled gently, "Yes, of course."
