Ariel's POV

~~~
Frey and I were sitting on a bench by the garden. The windows were glass stained and reflected a beautiful array of colors, which brightened up the hallway.
"Do vampires age?' I asked.
"Some do and some don't," Frey said. "I myself am about 18 years."
He's younger than I expected.
"I was turned about 8 years ago. Can't remember. But I do remember learning about how age works." Frey leaned back on the wall. "Purebloods are the ones who don't age, and the rest age slowly. I recall Maya being about 150 years old."
"Wow, she still looks young. Now that I'm a Heliosinclaire, I guess I'll stay eternally 16."
Frey checked his watch. "Usually you don't age after you grow into your 20s. What else do you want to know?"
What was next?... "How do superpowers work?"
He shrugged, "it depends on the person. Maya can lift heavy weights. I can sense from a distance. The Master..." He trailed off. "He can do many things."
"Like what?"
"Almost everything. Super sight, hearing, sense, and there's strength, smell, mind reading, the list goes on." Frey sat up straight, stretching his arms up in the air.
"He sounds frightening," I said, watching a ladybug fly onto my dress.
"My lady," he sneered, "you are frightened by the wrong vampires." Frey stood up and smiled at me, "the Master is the gentle kind. Had you been captured by anyone else, your body and organs would have been in shambles."
"But... he's so..." just as I was about to say anything, I just remembered that he had sharp hearing. "Oh, can he hear us from this distance?!" I gasped covering my mouth with my palm.
Frey smirked, "possibly."
And he can read minds. Is it from a distance as well?
I felt awkward thinking about it and how exposed I was.
"My lady, I need to go attend to my other duties," Frey said as he stepped back, staring into my eyes, "now don't get in trouble. I was tasked with your protection. If you end up in any danger, the fault lies with me." He smirked again and left me alone in the colorful hallway.
What was I to do?
I had an immense amount of free time, so I decided to roam around the estate, exploring the rooms and offices it had to offer.
The estate was massive. It had a beautiful garden façade spread out like a fan with white roses. Next to it was the main garden planted with beautifully red colored roses perfuming the air.
Many of the rooms were plastered with marble and stones on the walls, creating a sparkling reflection which made the estate seem magical. There were also paintings and murals drawn in a Victorian style, traveling across the chambers with birds and angels painted with detail.
Everything was as if a royal family had lived in these halls, leaving behind any valuables they collected.
I've come to grow accustomed to this lavish lifestyle – even beginning to trust the other vampires.
My thoughts stopped as I noticed that I stepped into the hallways which lead me to Eugene's study.
I was back here?
My hand automatically turned the doorknob and pushed open the door, leading my feet onto the study's rug.
I couldn't control myself.
There, I saw Eugene sleeping on a chaise lounge chair.
My body was strangely drawn to him.
I stepped closer and sat down beside the sleeping vampire.
He had such long eyelashes and a beautiful countenance as he was a painting that has come to life.
His hand touched my waist and I turned in surprise.
"Caught you," he said.
I jumped.
Eugene sat up and straightened his undercoat.
"I was just—" I couldn't find the words. I felt so flustered. What had gotten into me??
"You're alright, Ariel. I was waiting for you to arrive," he said, examining my dress.
"You knew I was coming?"
"I led you here."
He could do that?
He crossed his legs and arms, smiling at me like how a mother does with her children.
"I just wanted to see you, Ariel."
How was I to react?
He did lose his family in a fire, so maybe he was feeling lonely.
"Come sit with me, Ariel."
I settled myself to his right, feeling nervous.
We sat in silence. It felt awkward.
"Let me talk about my late family," he finally said.
