A few days had passed and I slowly started drifting away from Venti. In the few days that had passed since our conversation beneath the tree, I had been doing more thinking.
"We could've gone somewhere, just us two..."
Those words he'd said... they kept repeating over and over again in my mind. And over and over I kept replaying it. I tried to imagine how I'd react if anyone else say, Kaeya, or Albedo, were to say that to me. It didn't flutter my heart and stomach the way Venti did.
I'd been denying it for a while but I slowly came to the realisation that, whether I wanted this or not...
I loved Venti.
So I spaced myself from him, making sure he'd never find out. I just couldn't bear the thought of him finding out because I knew how he'd look at me.
He'd look at me with disgust, ashamed that I would even fall in love with my best friend. He'd look at me like he didn't know me. I was sure of it. He'd hate me.
Walking through the street, my head buried in thought, I almost missed the fact that someone was calling my name. I looked up to see Katheryn waving at me, a friendly smile on her face as she called me over.
I stepped over to the desk of the Adventurers' Guild, my voice warm, stained with just a hint of tiredness, "Hey Katheryn! Did you need something?"
She smiled, "Yes, in fact, I do!" She reached under the desk and pulled out a letter, passing it to me, "I don't mean to be a bother but I was wondering if you'd be able to deliver this letter to Verr Goldett, the manager of Wangshu Inn? I would ask the Traveler, but they're off completing a commission in Fontaine and they're not expected back for another week."
I thought about it for a second. If I did this, it would mean I would be away from Mondstadt for nearly five days... who knows what Venti could do while I'm gone...
But still, Katheryn was relying on me and I didn't want to disappoint her. So I said,
"Sure, I'd be glad to help."
Katheryn beamed and I gave a friendly wave goodbye. Just as I was about to turn around she grabbed my wrist, gaining my attention again.
"I almost forgot..." she rooted around in a drawer, "Here's the payment for the commission you did last week."
She passed me a bag of Mora.
I pocketed the pouch, "Thanks." I said, before making my way to the city entrance, smiling genuinely at the sense of pure freedom I felt, knowing I was heading out into the big, wide world, into nature even if it was just for a bit, just to deliver a letter.
[Venti's POV]
I wandered through the streets of Mondstadt aimlessly.
Y/n had been avoiding me for the past few days. Y/n... my beautiful y/n... why had she been avoiding me? Why would she want to avoid me? It didn't make any sense.
After a while of wandering, I found myself asking Katheryn. After all, she never seemed to leave that desk of hers, she must have seen something.
"Ah, yes," she mused, "Miss y/n is out of Mondstadt for a few days. She's delivering a letter to Miss Verr Goldett down in Wangshu Inn. She left three days ago, I suspect she'll be back late tomorrow night, if she's not held up at all."
So y/n wasn't here... I was alone for a few days.
Suddenly a sharp pain stabbed at my temples and the world took on a hazy, fuzzy-edged appearance. I closed my eyes shut tightly and calmed my breathing, waiting for the pain to pass. When it did, I opened my eyes and looked around. My sight had a pale purple-ish tint and lookig back at Katheryn's worried face, a thought hit me.
Y/n was out of town...
Y/n was... out of... town...
I can do...
...whatever I want...
I had a plan.
And now was the perfect time to carry it out. And if I wanted to do that...
I needed to pay a visit to some dear old Favonian friends of mine.
{A/n: Is it just me or do most players know who NPC's like Katheryn and Verr Goldett are, but we're never bothered to learn how to spell their names? Like, I swear, I have no idea if I spelt their names right in this chapter lol}
