6 Months Later

Life had continued on, it was weird for Arizona and she still visited Meredith nearly everyday most time having lunch in Meredith's room but she'd found a way to make life work.
Some days had been harder than other, celebrating the kids birthdays without Meredith there, and watching Valentine's Day come and go while her wife was still in the coma but she'd kept busy. Addison had decided to stay permanently living in the apartment Arizona and Meredith had bought. A few months after Meredith had fallen into the coma Arizona and the kids had moved back to their house no longer needing the smaller apartment but Arizona refused to sell it in case Meredith needed it.

"Mer honey it's been a year, I miss you so much."
Arizona said crying next to Meredith's bed. Meredith still hadn't shown signs of waking up but since she'd been in remission her lung capacity had improved she had been successful taken off the ventilator about a month ago but still she hadn't woken up.
"Please mer, I need you the kids need you. I know your in there I know you can fight please." She cried holding Meredith's hand.
"Or Mer if you can fight I understand you can let go if you need" she said gently stroking Meredith's face. As she looked at her wide she cried, her head falling onto the bed. She couldn't stand it anymore she needed her wife back.
Suddenly Arizona felt a twitch beneath her hand,
"Mer?" She asked
And the hand twitched again
"Meredith, honey squeeze my hand." She said grabbing onto Meredith's hand, for a second she stood there frozen but then she felt it, it was tiny and weak but it was there, a squeeze.
"Omg mer!" Arizona yelled, quickly hitting the nurse button,
"Hey hey, mer you there it's ok" she cooed, Meredith slowly opened her eyes,
Suddenly Miranda came running into the room.
"What, what happened," she asked frantically
"She, she's waking up" Arizona said crying happy tears
"Mmmm..." Meredith moaned
"Sh sh honey don't try and talk, it's ok" Arizona cooed
"Oh my gosh, someone page Nuro, this is amazing." Miranda said walking next to Meredith.
Meredith looked at Arizona confused,
"Zona" she managed to get out her voice horse and cracking.
"Yes mer I'm here it's ok I'm here" Arizona cooed gently, "here sip this," she said gently bringing a cup with water to Meredith.
Suddenly Amelia arrived at the door of the room.
"What what, oh my god Mer." She shouted running into the room, Meredith looked at Amelia with a mixture of confusion and fear as she ran into the rooms
"Amelia calm down, your scaring her" Miranda scolded,
"Sorry I just oh my gosh, ok sorry we pages nuro here so we need to do a nuro check right?" Amelia asked turning to Miranda
"Yes please, then we can discuss other tests" Miranda explained
Amelia completed the nuro exam quite quickly, while Meredith remained mostly confused.
"Ok Meredith who am I?" She asked as the final question testing the last area of Memory
"Aaammy" Meredith managed to croak out
"Yea that right good." She concluded,
"So is she ok?" Arizona asked concerned.
"She seems mostly ok, I want to do a head ct just to be sure but it seems ok, if there are any issue they may start to appear in the next few hours." Amelia explained,
Meredith looked at Arizona confused again,
"Thanks Amelia, can you give us a minute no body has explained to Meredith what's happening yet." Arizona asked looking at Amelia
"Sure, I'll just be outside" Amelia answered smiling before heading out miranda went to follow her,
"Wait Mandy, Dr Bailey could you stay please" Arizona asked turning back to Meredith.
Miranda returned taking the seat on Meredith other side.
"Meri my love, do you know where you are?" Arizona asked trying to gain an understanding of how much Meredith knew
"Grey Sloan" Meredith answered her voice becoming a bit clearer as she continued to sip on the water.
"Do you remover how you get here?" Miranda asked
But Meredith just shook her head.
"My love what's the last thing you remember" Arizona asked softly,
"Going to bed last night with you." Meredith answered, "I don't remember ending up in the hospital. What's going on I'm confused, and I feel so tired and heavy and everyone looks slightly different even you Zona." She said
As Meredith talked Arizona's heart sank Meredith had no idea what had happened over the last year. She looked hopelessly at Miranda,
"Meredith my dear, something happened" Miranda started
"What what happened? Is everyone ok?" Meredith asked
"Meredith, when your remember going to bed next to Arizona, that was a year ago." Miranda started and Meredith looked at her tears building in her eyes.
"That night I woke up to you sweating in bed beside me, you had a really high fever. So I called an ambulance and rushed you in here. Miranda treated you and we discovered that you had an infection." Arizona explained taking hold of Meredith's hand.
"It was quite a serious infection and due to your bodies low immune system it.." Arizona paused
"You had five seizures in the total of the night and at the conclusion of the 5th seizure you flatlines and it took us 7 minutes to get you back" Miranda continued seeing it was too hard for Arizona.
"At that point you fell into a coma, we have been monitoring you ever since." Miranda finished, Meredith just looked at her in disbelief
"A coma..? A year? I've been in a coma for a year?" She asked tear falling down her cheeks
"Yes my love," Arizona cooed, gently wiping Meredith's tears.
"I..what..7 minutes. I was dead for 7 minutes?" Meredith asked, it was too much information to take in at once
"You where, we noticed a small drop in your brain activity but not enough to cause major concern. Amelia did a quick nuro exam just before but we can now run tests to see if it cause any damage, I'm so sorry mer," Miranda explained,
"Ok" Meredith answered quietly
"I'll give you too some time, I'll be back shortly." Miranda continues noting that the couple needed some time to process.
