A week later.

As the week went on Meredith remained in hospital doing daily exercises to help regain her muscle strength. The kids had slowly begun to understand that she was awake and she wasn't going to go back into the coma. Arizona hadn't left Meredith's side, except for when she had to go get scans. Which is exactly where Meredith was now, Miranda believed they would be able to complete Meredith surgery to remove the pulmonary nodules in the next few days. Suddenly Arizona heard a knock at the door.
"Come in" she called assuming it was one of their friends as she dug around in her bag trying to find her jumper. "She's just getting scans at the moment, she will be back.." she stopped as she looked up and her eyes met those of someone familiar.
"What are you doing here?" She asked angry,
"I needed to talk to you." Callie responded "you weren't responding to my message or answering my calls." She continued,
"I don't want to talk to you, you put my wife in a coma." Arizona answered sternly. Callie looked at her for a moment before continuing a small about of hurt evident on her face.
"Where is she any?" Callie asked
"She's getting scans, Miranda believes she can do a surgery to remove the pulmonary nodules, rather than a lung transplant." Arizona answered matter a fact, she didn't want to be talking to Callie in fact she wanted her to leave but she also knew at one stage Meredith was Callie's friend and she hoped maybe deep down she still cared about her.
"She's doing surgery on a patient in a coma?" Callie asked confused.
"She woke up, a week ago." Arizona answered.
"Wait she did?" Callie asked excited
"Yes she did, now please leave I don't want to talk to you anymore." Arizona replied annoyed,
"No I won't leave I want to talk to you." Callie demanded,
"I don't care leave!" Arizona yelled, but Callie didn't move.
"You where punishing me by taking away my daughter because you thought I'd killed Meredith but I didn't Meredith is fine she's awake so give me back my daughter." Callie yelled.
"I wasn't punishing you," Arizona started but Callie cut her off.
"Yes you where I haven't seen her in over a year she's my daughter and your keeping me from her because your upset I didn't cater to every whim to help that slut you've been sleeping with."
"How dare you talk about my wife like that!" Arizona yelled. Callie went to say something but Arizona cut her off continuing.
"I didn't keep Sofia from you, you kept Sofia from you. I have sole custody of Sofia but I let you have visits with her because I thought it was what was best for my daughter but she didn't want to go anymore. She came back last time and because she couldn't take the effort to have a shower when you got home she brought back an infection an infection that put Meredith in a coma. Not only that but Sofia at 13 tried to reason with you she tried to convince you to have a shower and you yelled at her. You told her Meredith wasn't her mother and maybe she's not biologically her mother she is more a mother to Sofia than you are!" Arizona yelled. "Meredith was your friend, and you put her in a coma not Sofia you! And yes she's awake but she's got a long road ahead of her. Before she fell into the coma she flatlined and it took them 7 minutes to bring her back, and that's left her with brain damage. Meredith is in for an uphill battle to regain her motor controls right now she can't even squeeze my hand let alone hold a scalpel. Then due to being in the coma for a year she's suffering from muscular dystrophy which means she can't even sit up on her own right now and she's doing physical therapy but it's not just over cause she woke up. Due to the time she was intubated as well she has significant scarring on her oesophagus that we found out yesterday means she won't ever be able to return to a proper diet for the rest of her life she will need a PEG tube to receive nutrients so don't come in here telling me, that I've been keeping Sofia from you. Sofia made the choice after seeing what your selfish actions have done to her mother. She told me she didn't want to see you anymore and I respect that. And your ignorance to what our family and especially Meredith is facing now is just more reason to trust her." Arizona continued now standing up. Callie just stood there for a moment before reaching into her purse and pulling out an envelope handing it to Arizona.
"I thought you might refuse." Callie said before walking away, just at that moment a nurse returned with Meredith.
"Zona what's wrong?" Meredith asked as she was wheeled back into the room. Arizona didn't say anything she just sat down looking at the envelope in her hands.
"Zona what happened what's that?" Meredith asked concerned. Arizona looked back at Meredith tears in her eyes,
"Callie was just here." Arizona answered quietly, during the last week they had discussed a lot more of what had happened over the past year including Sofia not wanting to go see Callie anymore.
"What did she want?" Meredith prompted.
"She was asking about Sofia, I told her it wasn't me that was keeping me from her but she didn't believe me then she gave me this." Arizona said holding up the envelope.
"Open it honey I'm right here." Meredith cooed they both had suspicions in what was inside but didn't know for sure. As Arizona opened it her heart was racing, Meredith hated seeing her wife like that and not being able to do anything, Arizona's hand rested on the bed just a few inches from Meredith's as she read in contents of the the letter but Meredith could seem to get her hand to move to sit over her wife's until suddenly it did her hand moved and she was able to rest it on top of Arizona's.
"What does it say my love?" She asked gently,
"She's, she's suing me for custody of Sofia. We have to go back to court." Arizona cried, looking at Meredith.
"Hey we will get through this." Meredith answered,
