Chapter 23: Unexpected Duties

"My child you still have much to do." Joseph says walking towards you. You could've ran, you could've fought him but something deep inside of you was just telling you to give up. Maybe there was no escape for you out of Hope County. Your legs give in under you and you crash to the ground. The world around you spinning your head pounding, before all was dark and silence ensued.

You awake in the all too familiar church where Joseph does his sermons. It was still night and Joseph was sitting on the same bench reading his bible. You look up at him before laying your head back down.

"You're finally awake, I was debating between waking you up or waiting, good thing I waited." Joseph says, flipping through his book. You let out a loud sigh. You couldn't have been out for long if it was still night. Probably closer to the morning of the next day from the looks of it.

"Just turn me in already to Jacob." You say tracing the marks of the wood on the bench. "This is what I get for trying to run away, I guess." You hear Joseph stand up walking in front of your sights. You look up at him meeting his gaze.

"Actually that's not what I'm going to do." Joseph says, "I have other plans for you, you serve a purpose to Eden's Gate. I can't tell you or else it's not going to work in our favor." You give Joseph a confused look.

"Huh? What do you mean?" You say getting up off the bench standing in front of Joseph. He puts his hands on your shoulders and puts his head on yours.

"You will understand soon my child, when the time comes you will remember how my brothers made you feel." Joseph says, you felt a little weirded out with his wording almost like Joseph knew stuff he shouldn't. He lets go of your shoulder and walks off, you stay where you are. When Joseph returns he has a bag of stuff in hand. He puts the bag down on the bench behind you pulling out everything.

"This is a map, if you go here." Joseph points at a mark on the map that he must have put in with pencil. "There will be a bunker for you to take refuge in, it's full of supplies and rooms somewhat like the bunker my siblings have but smaller. It's stocked up with enough to last the whole collapse. That is where you'll be going. Only you and I know of this bunker and it's hidden so you don't need to worry about anyone else being there."

"Why can't I just leave instead of going there?" You say to Joseph, looking up at him. "I don't see the point in keeping me in Hope County if you're just going to leave me in a bunker. What purpose would I even serve left in a bunker?"

"Morning is approaching and both my brothers have probably figured out you have left Jacob. John will be looking out for you and so will Jacob. If either of them catch you then their fates are sealed along with yours." Joseph's words caused you to gulp at the gruesome meaning behind them. "You have no chance of escaping Hope County without getting caught by them. By tomorrow afternoon all exits in Hope County will be sealed." Joseph hands you the map.

"Make it to the bunker before morning, here's the key to it as well." Joseph says you grab the map and the key he handed out. The next thing Joseph grabs is a pistol. "This is a bliss pistol like the one John uses, you already know what it does, and when the time comes you'll use it accordingly." He stuffs that in the bag. Next he grabs a radio. "This is how you'll know what's happening outside of the bunker, use it to your advantage and listen to it everyday." He stuffs it in the bag and lastly grabs a mp3 player and headphones.

"I'm not one for using stuff like this but since you have already been through Jacob's training you're going to need it so when you're outside the bunker he can't lure you to him." Joseph hands you the device. You look up at him.

"Why me?" You start, all of this info, all of this stuff. It was clear Joseph had planned for this. Almost like he knew all of the previous events would happen. Like everything played out like how he wanted. "I don't understand any of this. How long have you been planning for this?"
