I stared at the female beside me and again was amazed about the strength she possessed. I stayed silent, silently wondering if I should help or try to run as soon as I could.
But where? Where would I go? My family was dead, and I didn't have anyone else to help me.
Eira stayed silent while she looked at me, waiting for me to say something, anything, but I couldn't; I couldn't think of a way to voice my doubts or feelings.
Finally, she sighed and moved a hand through her hair. "You'll be better than what you think," she said and offered me a smile while she dipped her head as if she knew what I was thinking. "You don't have to be afraid, and you have a place with us."
"But... I'm no fighter," I said and shook my head. "I don't know how to do anything, a-"
"And you will learn," she said, interrupting me. "We all had to learn at one point." She shrugged and grinned while she dipped her head closer to her chest. "I had to learn twice, and let me tell you, that was fun."
I hesitated but nodded. "And will I learn how to control my powers?" I asked.
"Yes," she said and nodded. She sighed and moved a hand through her hair before she shook her head. "I don't know what Myth has to do particularly because it's not like making something out of thin air, even though I have a feeling that you could somehow do that to something, but we'll figure it out together."
"What about controlling others?" I asked. "Will you help me find out how I did it because I have no idea how I did that?"
"Yes," she confirmed and nodded. "I know that it has to deal with something in your voice, but I am not sure what. However, we can see if Kaity can point us in the right direction. If not, then we'll figure it out on our own."
I slowly nodded. "So Kaity will have to give us a lot of information or point us in the right direction, correct?" I asked, also indicating how we needed her help to get to Yervon.
"Yes," she replied and nodded.
"That doesn't mean you two can go off on your own, Eira," David warned while he looked at us through the rearview mirror. "You do have to bring o-"
"It's not going to be like how we got either Daniel or Ralph," Eira said, interrupting him. "If we have to go by ourselves, then we have to go by ourselves. If she has to do something on her own, then she has to do it on her own."
My eyes grew wide when she said that I'd have to do something on my own, and I shook my head. "I-I don't think I would be able t-"
Eira grabbed my hand, silencing me and squeezed it reassuringly. "Don't worry," she said, offering me a small smile while she looked at me. "If you have to do it on your own, then I'll still be nearby. I just won't be able to help you."
I breathed a sigh of relief and nodded, feeling relieved. "Ok," I said before I cleared my throat and looked out the window to see that we were in a neighborhood. "Are we close?" I asked, changing the subject while I looked at her again.
Eira nodded. "We are," she hummed. "We'll show you to your room and then we can go see what Kaity has to say. After that, it's either rest or start getting what you need done so that you can get your dagger and we can connect Yervon back to everything else."
I pressed my lips into a thin line before I hesitated and nodded. "And you don't know how?" I asked and raised an eyebrow.
Eira smiled sadly and shook her head. "I'm afraid not," she replied before she cleared her throat and grew serious. "However, that doesn't mean we aren't going to figure it out. I'm pretty sure that it's going to be different, though."
"Because the Gods and Goddesses live there?" I asked, and she nodded in confirmation.
"Except for Garth, but that is a story for a different time." She pursed her lips in annoyance before she sighed and moved a hand through her hair and across her face. "We're going to have to find another way to get to him and deal with everything that he has done."
"Was he forced out?" I asked and cocked my head while I looked at her. "Is that why he isn't living there?"
She nodded and pressed her lips into a thin line. "He's banned to the Dark Lands," she said and moved a hand through her hair while she sighed and shook her head while she cleared her throat. "He can't live with them, especially with all of the darkness in his heart."
"Does that mean there is no God for death?" I asked and noticed that the whole car grew tense, but I pressed on because I wanted to know. "If he is banned from there, then who are they able to pray to?"
Eira shrugged and grimaced before she cleared her throat. "I've heard rumors from the animals that there is someone else that could take over and be the main Death God, but I don't know who he is and have never met him."
"Have you ever met any of the Gods and Goddesses?" I asked and cocked my head while I raised an eyebrow.
Eira shrugged and shook her head. "Not necessarily," she replied, choosing her words carefully before she cleared her throat. "However, I have "met" them before." She dipped her head and furrowed her brows while she pressed her lips into a thin line.
"How?" I asked.
"Through dreams," she said and furrowed her brows more until they almost touched. "I know I've had some contact with them, but it wasn't much, and I don't remember what was discussed or whatever." She chose her words carefully while she talked about it, and I couldn't help but become more interested.
I waited for her to elaborate, but she didn't and shook her head instead. "Will I get to know?" I asked, feeling disappointed that she didn't elaborate on her dreams in meeting the Gods and Goddesses that I now served.
"Well, you are Myth," she replied and looked at me. "You will get to know in time." She shrugged and cleared her throat. "It's not safe to discuss this here, anyway," she added and shrugged. "It would be best if we kept this to ourselves while we are in the car." She looked at David and Daniel with a pointed gaze, and they looked at each other before they looked at her.
Daniel closed his mouth and pressed his lips into a thin line. Annoyance flashed across his face, but he didn't say a word, even though we both knew that he wanted to.
"Just be careful," David said, and Eira rolled her eyes and scowled.
"I am always careful, David," she replied with a dip of her head. "I don't know what you are t-"
"You are not, Eira," Daniel said, interrupting her, and she grinned amused. He scowled and narrowed his eyes while he looked at her. "You are not as careful as you think you are."
"Fighting comes naturally, Daniel," she hummed while she dipped her head closer to her chest. She cleared her throat and grew serious. "It's not my fault that I have an uncle who wants to take me out or others wanting to make sure that I fail."
I furrowed my brows and cocked my head while I studied her. "Fail as in..."
Eira smiled sadly and dipped her head closer to her chest. Pain filled her eyes, and she cleared her throat while she shifted in her seat. "Fail as in bringing everyone together," she said, her voice cracking slightly.
Again, she cleared her throat while she shook her head. "This is the last time for all of us to get everyone and to bring balance back." She sighed and moved a hand across her face before she shook her head again. "If we don't..."
She trailed off and shrugged while she grimaced, and the whole car grew tense and silent.
"And if we don't?" David inquired, and his grip on the steering wheel grew tight as if he knew what she wanted to say. "What'll happen, Eira?"
"We die," she replied. "Everyone dies except those that worship the darkness. It will be an end like no other, and that's something that we have to make sure we are ready for."
