I took a deep breath and nodded, even though I doubted her. I didn't know why she would doubt herself. I mean, she looked as if she had done this before. She knew what was happening and what was needed of her, so why would she have those thoughts?
Eira sighed and cleared her throat. She studied me, and a shiver went down my spine because it felt like she was looking into my soul and was able to read me like an open book. "You have some doubts about what I had said," she said, tearing her gaze away from me to look at the way we were going. "You don't believe me."
I sighed and nodded because I knew that there was no way I could hide that from her. "Yes..." I said, trailing off. I cleared my throat and licked my lips, trying to come up with an answer better than 'yes.' However, for some reason, I wasn't able to, so I just kept silent.
The other female chuckled and shook her head. She didn't seem to be too upset that I didn't believe her, but it might have hurt her a little. "If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't either, but it is the truth." She fiddled with her staff. "I am just good at hiding it." She gave Caden a wry smile before she looked away and cleared her throat before she became quiet.
"Where are we going?" I asked, not liking the quiet that had fallen on us. "Or do you know?"
"We're going to one of the entrances of the Between," she replied, "to get to where the others are staying." She glanced around before she looked at me, her eyes a dark blue, and held this knowledge that I didn't understand. "You'll have to leave Caden behind. He has a family here that will need him."
I hesitated but nodded because I did not want Caden to leave me. However, I knew that this minotaur had a family to go to, and I didn't want him to be missed, even though I didn't trust Eira at all. I knew that she wouldn't hurt me, but for some reason, I trusted Caden more than her.
Eira studied me and looked away with a small chuckle. She didn't say a word, and from my view of her, I could see that she had a small smirk on her face. Her whole body was relaxed while she followed a path that I couldn't see, and she didn't seem upset at all.
"What?" I asked, feeling defensive. "What is with the chuckle and smirk?" I narrowed my eyes and scowled before I folded my arms across my chest. I ignored the minotaur when he chuckled, amused, my gaze fully on the female that was to be my guide through this new life that had been set up for me.
"Oh, nothing," she replied. She turned her head and looked at me again, and the smirk on her face was in full view. Amusement filled her eyes, and I had a feeling that whatever she was thinking was funny. "You trust something that you haven't seen for... years, even though you were scared of him the first few minutes, you laid your eyes on him because he is a minotaur and not "normal." However, you are more trusting of him than you are of me, and I am human."
"With frosty abilities, Your Highness," Caden said, and the princess shrugged her shoulders. "However, you do know the reason as to why she does trust me more. Correct?" He raised an eyebrow, and she nodded her head.
"Why do I?" I asked, looking between the two of them, confused. My cheeks turned red, and I was glad of my darker complexion because I knew that they wouldn't be able to see it. I cleared my throat and looked away from their powerful gazes. "If I may ask."
"It's because you can "control" them," Eira replied. "They're linked to the dimension called Yervon, where your dagger is located, and they are basically myths. You'll be able to see behind the Veil and control those that "normal" people think of as myths."
"So... like vampires are real?" I asked, furrowing my brows. "And werewolves?"
"And mermaids, witches, unicorns, and other creatures that you thought were only fantasy," Eira confirmed.
