Prelude to Transfer

Byzantine Empire, Damascus Ghetto, December 31st 2021

Snow fell over the city's ghetto as the night passed by with silence. It was a peaceful night to end the year. But for the 196 000 Muslims of the empire however, did not find the night peaceful, for years they had lived in fear, lived under the cruel boots of the Empire. 

For Centuries they had been banned from basic needs, but since 2015, there has been a sharp decline in their needs, to now, living in a state of Terror.

The Screech of Tires from 12 Wheel Trucks came as the black trucks came to a stop outside, Dozens of Men, dressed in Formal uniforms, pure black with red caps and red cuffs stood in rows. 

They were the Excubitors, the empire's terror police, to ensure ''Order, morality and blind loyalty'' to the Empress.

A Officer walked to them and handed them papers and pointed to names before he spoke.

''Him, her and him, Shoot her before him but make sure he sees it. And this one. Kill him,take him to his Mosque, dump him in the hall. And Him? Kill his Family but leave him alive'' The officer flatly explained

As they went inside the buildings, there was gunshots as the men made their rounds, as they did, they shouted for all to hear.

''Long live the Empress!''

BANG!

''Long Live the Great Rome!''

BANG!

''Glory to Rome!''

The Excubitors then exited the Building with a few Muslims, some dead, some alive. One of them spoke up as he passed the Excubitor Officer.

''Why? Why?! We have done nothing wrong! We are a peaceful people'' The man begged

The Officer's face soured as he took out his Pistol and hit the man in the face.

''Do you really think that? Pathetic, You and your...People are nothing more than the ants of the Great Empress, in the way of civilization and Glory, Thank the True Lord that when we are done, your ways will be for the past'' The Officer said ''Take this Filth away''

The Muslim man was struck by a rifle butt, knocking him out. He was dragged away, today, 82 were killed. The need to purge them was mounting, war was coming and they needed to ensure the enemies of the state was taken care of before the Invasion begins.

This was the reality of the Byzantine Empire, the world's last Autocratic Empire, A Country with little to no democratic institutions. It's history rich and long, at one point, they were quite tolerant of others, but ever since Empress Julia I took power, it quickly changed.

Empress Julia Constantine Palaiologos-Romanov was the first female ruler in almost 1000 years. She ruled as a tyrant, creating a cult of personality for herself, the Empress was not expecting to rule. But that was not the case now, she had all the power and she would ensure it would never go away.

Most of the world did not like her, the human right violations were a gross understatement.

The Roman people should in the modern day reject the cult of personality, given the access to information and having the Liberal West and Conservative Eastern Europe, both democracies. But that did not matter, for the Empress had the blood of Constantine XI, a Man and Legendary Figure so beloved and revered, he was a Saint, hence, Empress Julia had Divine Blood.
