Papaldian Empire, Dologne, October 25th 1640 (2023)
Dologne, One of the biggest cities in the Papaldian Empire, was currently being battered from Byzantine Attacks. Since the landings weeks ago, they made rapid progress, Capturing a Area roughly the size of North Korea in 1 month.
Impressive given the fanatical resistance by the Papaldians, which kept launching bitter and brutal counter attacks.
But despite all of this, Dologne had yet to fully fall, the 57 000 Garrison were held up in various parts of the city, fighting to the end. Even as Byzantine Bombers dropped Cluster Bombs on Residential buildings.
In Scene which resembled hell on earth, the people suffered, already, over 80 000 had fallen, mainly civilians.
Many other cities across the eastern half of Papaldia, suffered the same fate of terror bombing by bomb and missile barrages. In Only 1 Month, 301 000 Civilians had died or been wounded by these raids, Alongside 76 000 Combat losses.
Papaldia had taken a heavy beating, but they had managed to prevent the now 680 000 Byzantines from breaking out.
Elsewhere in occupied Byzantine lands however, it was terror, the Excubitor Guards of Papaldia, now 5000 strong, began a Campaign of unfiltered Mass Murder and Extermination of The Papaldians living under Byzantine Boots.
Of the 2.8 Million they had captured, 300 000 had been killed to make room for the Future Colonists.
But the battle order of all Byzantine Soldiers in the landing group was the same: "Dologne must fall!". Lieutenant General Constantine Stilicho was tasked with taking the city by the end of the year.
Despite the destruction, capture of most key sectors and the fall of the factories. The 57 000 Garrison resisted bitterly.
Lieutenant General Constantine Stilicho stood knee deep in the mud and rubble as he watched from up close another assault into the City Hall. Where over 4000 enemy soldiers tried to fight on.
But after 7 days without food or water, they had to be near collapse, how they fought on, Lieutenant General Constantine Stilicho only knew.
Blind fury.
He knew they were fighting to the last because they knew what was going to happen when they got captured. As an example, an office building which held out for 11 days before the 500 men, now only 11 were taken, ironically.
The Doctors noted that they had no strength to drink water or anything. Yet just the hour before, they were fighting like wild dogs, throwing grenades which wounded many men.
All 11 were shot by the Excubitors. Lieutenant General Constantine Stilicho protested this and had the Guards sent out of Dologne until the city fell. Now the Army would take the city and they would take it before the due date.
On the seas, the Byzantine Enforced a Blockade of all Papaldian Ports, sinking every ship they had, but could not stop foreign ships from still trading.
Not even Empress Julia was certain of taking the entire world in a fight. As such, any ships from foreign countries were allowed to come as they pleased.
Normally this would be terrible, but the war was a shock to everyone and was causing investors, stocks and more to drop. Shipping fell 22%, Stocks fell by 10% to 50%, Investments, which before were around 650 Billion Yearly, were projected in 1641 to only be 260 Billion.
All of this was terrible as less money and trade, meant Papaldia's War support and effort would buckle in years to come.
As such, Emperor Wilhelm V had made it so to begin total mobilization of everything inside the country.
