Open Seas near Lauria, March 14th 1639
The Laurian fleet sailed east, ready for combat as Admiral Mitellus and his 45 ships felt confident, the army might be having a horrible time on land, having been decimated in 1 week, losing almost 90 000 men, in addition to losing lots of land as well.
Admiral Mitellus felt it was his duty to change the tide, cut the enemy off from resupply and restore faith in the sudden and ruthless invasion.
He was a hothead, he wanted to win this battle and turn the tide of the Invasion
He had a fleet of 45 ships, some old, some new, But the enemy had a larger fleet at 54 ships. Admiral Mitellus knew that difference in numbers could mean life or death, but he was a firm believer that simply attacking them now would be their only shot at victory.
Currently both fleets were only 215 Kilometers from each other.
Admiral Mitellus had sent out his Jets, all 70 of them, he wanted to get the first blow in. He watched the Radar as it fed him the current status, they were now in Missile range. His XO and 2nd in command, Vice-Admiral Scipio, was next to him.
"Was it really wise to send out all our jets at once?" He asked
"Maybe. Maybe Not" Replied Admiral Mitellus "But it is better to have the first shot and chance at victory than to let their numbers take us down"
"Still, The enemy should not be taken lightly, they are destroying the army" Vice-Admiral Scipio replied
"And we are the Navy, The Army might have lost 100 000 men or so in a week, but the Navy has not lost yet, we will defeat the enemy and save the Army" Admiral Mitellus said "And look, the Air Force just found the enemy fleet with their missiles and a enemy patrol of 60 Planes, easy enough already, let us watch"
Both Men looked at the screen as the Battle began. Almost instantly, it was a disaster, most of the Missiles were destroyed by the Byzantine Fleet. The ones which did hit, did very little damage given how the fleet continued to press forward without changing their positions at all.
In addition, the Planes were having a hard time fighting the enemy jets. In 20 minutes, they had shot down only 1 jet and lost 11 of their own.
Vice-Admiral Scipio looked at the screen and looked as their numbers kept getting smaller, they were losing.
"We're losing, shouldn't we do something? Fire Anti-Air Missiles at them?" Asked Vice-Admiral Scipio
Admiral Mitellus was silent before he picked up his phone and dialed the captains, telling them to fire AAM at the enemy Jets.
"We are not losing, just suffering...setbacks" Admiral Mitellus said
Vice-Admiral Scipio looked at Mitellus with a disgusted look, but it did not last long as the Alarms blared across the Carrier, something had happened, Admiral Mitellus looked at the screens, to see what was happening. When he locked eyes with the main screen.
The enemy had sent missiles to their fleet and somehow got 40 enemy Jets to swing around and attack them. The fleet quickly got into action. AAM were fired, AA guns locked on enemy Missiles and the fleet spread out to avoid cluster fire. In total, 201 Missiles were coming for them.
Admiral Mitellus looked at the direction which the Missiles and enemy Jets were coming from.
So many of them that it blocked the sun behind them, he had never seen such a sight before, even in the Papaldian Empire, famed for the large military drills, had not done something this large before.
