Battle of Jupiter

Kingdom of Lauria, Jupiter, March 30th 1639

Major General Constantine Stilicho looked at the city in front of him, some 250 000 lived in the city, Inside and around was the remnants of the Army they had crushed weeks prior, the 20 000 stragglers and survivors were joined by the hastily created 5th army, tasked with stopping the 44 500 Marines and Mountaineers. 

A total of 271 000 Soldiers stood in the way of the Byzantines in the Western advance.

The rest were in the East, where they had been destroyed by Empress Julia in battle, losing the entire east. The 729 000 Laurians, 89 000 had been killed and over 500 000 had deserted or been captured. 

In less than 1 Month, half the country and over 300 000 dead had deprived Lauria of everything they once had. Major General Constantine Stilicho wanted to take Jupiter before the end of the month but scorched earth policies, bad roads and more slowed him down.

But now that he saw the city, reminding him of Athens, he felt his heart hurt, he was attacking the city which was akin to his birthplace. His Front had already prepared for the coming assault, since they had arrived, missiles and artillery had begun pounded on the city. 

The 25 000 Strong garrison fired back with small attacks which did nothing.

Major General Constantine Stilicho watched as the flames lit up across the city, dancing in his eyes. He had to ask himself if this was all that his life would be, a cog in the machine of war.

"I'll be damned if i Allow it to break me now" he mumbled to himself

"Sir?" Asked Senior Colonel Marius Rex

"Nothing, Are the men ready for the assault?" Asked Major General Constantine Stilicho

"Yes Sir, All 14 groups are ready to begin the attack, give the order and we will charge the enemy" Senior Colonel Marius Rex replied

Major General Constantine Stilicho hummed as he took out a map of the Area and pointed to the left side.

"I want you to lead the left attack, You'll have good cover and be able enter the main part of the city without heavy resistance, after all, look, mostly from the lack of good defenses, I want you to try and take the Main Railroad Junction before April 4, So they can't destroy it, understand?" Explained Major General Constantine Stilicho

Senior Colonel Marius Rex nodded and left to take command. Not more than 30 Minutes later, The Battle began.

Erupting the city into flames and smoke, the Marines launched their attack with full force. Laurian Soldiers were cast aside as they were destroyed by the relentless attacks of the Byzantine Marines, by the end of the day, nearly 1/3rd of the city had fallen.

Senior Colonel Marius Rex himself, would receive his first of 44 wounds when a Grenade exploded near his command tent from a partisan. In Response, 800 Citizens were executed for the crime of attacking an officer. 

The Assault however, continued with such intensity and bitterness as any other combat of the war.

Major General Constantine Stilicho would watch as his forces continued to take more and more of the city with every passing day, But also watched in horror as the most deplorable crimes against humanity were made, all in the name of anti-partisan activities. 

He only managed to put a stop to it after a long speech to the officers, but even then, 30 000 spoke of the horrors.

While the fighting for the city continued with ever growing intensity, Newsreels from around the world visited the city which burned the night into day and turned the day into night with ash.
