It was a typical Friday night in their shared apartment, with Kakashi and Y/N unwinding after a long week. They'd been roommates for over a year, and in that time, they'd grown closer than most roommates tend to. Their friendship was something of a small haven in the chaos of their lives.

As the clock ticked past midnight, the two friends sat in the dimly lit living room. Kakashi had poured himself a generous glass of whiskey, a customary ritual to cap off his week. He was normally a stoic and reserved guy, but alcohol had a way of loosening his tongue, making him more candid than he intended.

Y/N, on the other hand, was nursing a cup of herbal tea, her preferred way to relax. She watched Kakashi as he sipped his drink, amused by the subtle transformation in his demeanor.

Kakashi felt the warmth of the alcohol seeping into his veins and decided it was time to break a barrier he'd been toying with for a while now. Leaning slightly toward Y/N, he mumbled, "You know, Y/N, there's something I've been meaning to tell you."

Y/N raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? What's that, Kakashi?"

Kakashi's single visible eye, half-lidded from the whiskey, seemed to twinkle with a mixture of sincerity and mischievousness. He leaned closer, his breath slightly laced with the scent of alcohol, and whispered, "I've been wanting to tell you I really admire you. Your strength, your kindness, your smile... you're amazing."

Y/N felt her heart race as his words hung in the air. It wasn't just the words themselves but the sincerity in Kakashi's voice that struck a chord within her. She'd always seen him as a mysterious, enigmatic figure, and his vulnerability in this moment was both surprising and endearing.

Kakashi continued, unaware that his confession was registering with Y/N, "I've never met anyone quite like you. You're the best thing that ever happened to me, and I just wanted you to know."

Y/N couldn't help but blush at his words. Her mind raced, torn between the desire to keep her true feelings hidden and the urge to confess her own emotions. She realized she needed to tread carefully and protect their friendship.

"Kakashi, that's really sweet of you to say," Y/N replied with a small, genuine smile. "You're a pretty amazing person too, you know. I'm lucky to have you as my roommate and friend."

Kakashi, his eyelid drooping even more, nodded contentedly. "I'm glad you think so," he mumbled before his head dropped back onto the couch, and he started to drift off to sleep.

Y/N watched him, her heart still pounding. She couldn't help but wonder if Kakashi would remember his confession in the morning. For now, she decided to cherish the moment, knowing that perhaps someday, under different circumstances, she might be able to share her true feelings with him.

As Kakashi's soft snores filled the room, Y/N sighed, sipped her tea, and contemplated the complexity of their relationship. The night had brought a new layer of depth to their connection, one that was both exciting and a little daunting.

~TIME SKIP~

The days that followed were a mix of excitement and anxiety for Y/N. Kakashi's drunken confession had lingered in her mind, and she couldn't help but wonder if he remembered what he'd said that night. He hadn't mentioned it, and the two of them had fallen back into their usual routine of being friends and roommates.

In the interest of preserving their friendship and not pushing Kakashi into a conversation he might not be ready for, Y/N decided to maintain a sense of normalcy. But her feelings for him had intensified after that night, and the challenge of concealing them was becoming increasingly difficult.

One evening, after a long day at work, Y/N returned to their apartment to find Kakashi reading a book on the couch. She smiled at the sight, appreciating his company, and sat down beside him.

"Hey, Kakashi," she began, trying to sound casual. "Have you thought more about what you said that night?"

Kakashi looked at her, his visible eye narrowing as he tried to recall the conversation. "That night? What did I say?"

Y/N felt a mix of relief and disappointment. It seemed that the alcohol-induced confession had been a fleeting moment of vulnerability for Kakashi, one he didn't remember. She decided to be honest with him but keep her feelings hidden for now.

"You told me that you admired me and thought I was amazing," she said, a small, wistful smile on her lips. "It meant a lot to me, Kakashi."

Kakashi blinked, his brow furrowing as he thought back. "I did? Well, I guess it must have been the alcohol talking. But, you know, I do think highly of you, Y/N, even when I'm sober."

Y/N's heart swelled at his words, and she couldn't help but blush a little. "That's really sweet, Kakashi. I think highly of you too."

The two friends shared a comfortable silence, the unspoken emotions lingering in the air. Y/N knew that there was something more between them, but it was clear that Kakashi either didn't remember or was choosing to ignore his drunken confession.

As the days turned into weeks, their friendship continued to deepen, with subtle gestures and shared moments hinting at something more. Y/N held onto the hope that one day, the timing would be right for them to share their true feelings.

In the meantime, they cherished their unique bond, which was strong enough to withstand the weight of unspoken words and hidden emotions. And they both knew that, regardless of what the future held, their connection was something special, something worth protecting.
