Hey people! Thanks for reading-

Also I apologize for this atrociously crusty drawing, it is super old. *Yay* Also it's Zephyr

I'd love it if people voted/commented, and I promise the chapters get more interesting soon, lol.

Chapter nine:

[]CANIS ALATUS[]:

Although I was still confused about why Pyri didn't want to talk to me, I knew I didn't have time to let my mind wander back to that. The past is the past, after all.

"Zephyr!" a familiar voice called. I looked around to see who it was, whipping my head left and right. My gaze caught on the crowd, and I spotted someone short, partially blocked by the taller people between us. "Ira!" I turned on our private radio and told her to speak to me using it so we could hear each other better. "But we probably shouldn't talk right now, they're about to tell us the instructions I think," I said over the radio to Ira, so no one else could hear us.

As my eyes wander, I see some huge, kennel-like things in the back of the courtyard, against the most sheltered wall. The large boxes are stacked two high and are as many as the teachers and breeders of the Spirit Dogs could handle. There were more eligible students than they could fit kennels against one wall, so the corners had two or three boxes too.

I was so excited and nervous for the dogs I could barely breathe.

"Everybody, listen up!" Our principal said coolly over the intercom.

A sudden wave of nerves shook my body, making my knees buckle a bit. I caught myself before falling, and no one seemed to notice. I listened as hard as I could, but I only heard static. This was most likely happening to everyone else too, because they were also looking around, as puzzled as I was.

The principal comes back on "Sorry for that slight mishap. It must have been the amount of power needed for me to speak to all of you, so we'll have to do two groups at a time. If you are on the left of the courtyard, you'll be first. Right will be second."

Sighing, I'm glad I'm first, I don't think I could take the butterflies in my stomach for much longer.

"Now, your dog should come to you, but if no dog chooses you, please find me or Vice Principal Bailey. We will help you sort it out. Your Spirit Dog may be a little over-excited and we have some larger, and friendlier breeds with us today. If you or a friend gets hurt, we have two of our school doctors with us on either side of the campus. Once your Spirit Dog comes to you, hold out your hand and once the dog sniffs it, and makes sure you're right for them, grab them by the harness and attach the leash you'll be receiving in just a moment. Once you have them tethered, take them to our kennel, and stick with a group!" The intercom clicked as the lengthy message finished. I curled my fingers around my leash, I mentally and physically prepared myself, wrapping my arms around myself to ward away the chill mostly smothered by my suit. But not just that chill raced up and down my spine. The nerves were starting to get to me, all the anticipation built up finally reaching a climax. I sucked in a shaky breath through my teeth, fighting to stop my shaking hands.

I can do this. I'm ready.

I told myself, repeating the words until I believed them.
