Chapter Forty-Seven:

[]Canis Alatus[]

Cold wind wrapped around me and settled like a blanket as I lay in the oversized dog bed next to Kori. I opened my eyes, looked over but she was asleep.

She flinched slightly, then stirred.

She rubbed her eyes and sat up a bit more, instinctively reaching to her wings.

She looked up at Hunter, then shifted her weight more towards her.

My heart melted a little, knowing neither of them were sentimental.

I yawned, and Kori looked over at me.

A smile split my cheeks and I waved. She rolled her eyes but smiled back at me.

I tapped my wrist cuff that bore different shades of blue, and a gold charm for my sub-clan.

.:-BLIZZARD WARNING NO LONGER IN EFFECT-:.

Read the latest notification. I tapped Kori. "Hey, we should head out, the snow's calmed down."

She groaned but started to stand up. I followed, stirring Chance. He growled, but let me up.

"Sorry, bud." I tiptoed around him.

Biting down hard on my tongue, I almost fell on my face as I noticed my entire leg had fallen asleep, giving me pins and needles whenever I stepped on the victimised leg.

"You good, Ira?" Kori arched a thin-caramel coloured eyebrow, then chuckled and put a stabilising hand on my shoulder.

I nodded, smiling up at her.

Wee exited the kennel, leaving Chance to his nap.

Kori stopped by her kennel, then remembered it was broken.

We didn't have to walk long before we found a hall monitor, and she said it'd take a while to fix, but they had extra kennels. The staff member gave us directions, and we took Hunter to her new home.

At least her 'new home' for now. Just for now.

I'm glad we didn't get written up, or a detention for being out way late. I bet it was because they understood, as the blizzard had happened.

The blizzard that could've killed Zephyr.

It was hard to not overlook that, it was just a blizzard. Those seem to happen all the time.

But I guess when it happens to some you know, it becomes more than just a blizzard.

The shock caught up to me.

Zephyr

Could

Have

Died.

I let out a small gasp but tried to suppress it.

I didn't want Kori to notice, or worse, be concerned.

We had jogged the way to the main dorm building, not wanting to be caught outside in the middle of the night.

We parted ways as we came to our hallways, having to go to our dorms.

I opened the door to my dorm.

It felt so empty without Pyri.

Sassy

Independent

Popular

Pyri.

My roommate.

I sighed, settling on my bunk, the bottom bunk. It had been an unforgettable day when I'd earned this bunk. Lost a game of laser-metal-water.

I slipped out of the uniform I'd been in the whole day, and into my comfortable, soft pyjamas.

I sighed, heaving myself into my bed.

I had to wake up excessively early tomorrow morning, seeing as we had our first day of Spirit Training.

A class that was specifically designed for Spirit Dogs and their handlers.

Not owners.

Never owners.

Those who were lucky, or skilled, I suppose, enough to be graced by Spirit Dogs were merely partners, blessed by the presence of the mythical canines.

I drifted off to sleep, taken by a terrifying wave of nightmares.

As sickening as they were, it was nothing unusual.
