Chapter 35:
[]Canis Alatus[]
I screamed.
Primal, raw, instinct took over.
I hadn't broken down like this in a long time.
And now I am, in front of someone, or some dog I suppose, I had just met.
My body wanted to protect Zephyr.
To be there for them.
But I couldn't be. And it was tearing me apart from the inside out.
My vocal cords hurt, and my voice was shredded.
But still, I screamed. Screamed for Zephyr. Screamed for Stella to move.
But even when I was crazy, out of my mind, this tether I had met an hour ago was standing strong.
But all I saw was a barrier.
A barrier between me and that door.
A barrier between me and Zephyr.
A barrier I had to break.
A cold hand landed softly on my shoulder.
I was breathing heavily, not aware of how tired I was.
My pupils dilated, taking in the light, and I could see again. The figure gently wiped tears from my eyes.
"...Zephyr..." I breathed, my voice almost completely gone.
"Hey... It's okay, Pyri. You're safe. We sent a safety patrol to find Zephyr, they'll going to be okay." Kori said, offering a weak smile.
I collapsed, and Stella breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
"...Stella. 'M sorry." I whimpered.
'No. No more crying.' She whispered. 'You've done enough of that.'
I swiped at my eyes, but they wouldn't stop.
Rivers poured out, drowning me hopelessly in a sea of tears.
I took ragged breaths of the stuffy air, my mind still wanting to fight. My body was too tired to even move.
I gave one last attempt to push past Stella, one final try. But my limbs hung limp, not a drop of the power or energy that had coursed through me only minutes before.
Everything began to swirl and mix and blend nauseatingly around me.
And the world went dark.
