Chapter Twenty-One:
[]CANIS ALATUS[]
As fast as an Umbrae, Stella jumped up, lurching backwards and letting out a startled yelp.
Spotting the reason, I laughed "Relax Stella, it's just a spider!"
Stella whimpered. 'Uh, Pyri, do you hear that?'
"Is it the spider, or the weird noises coming from above us?" I asked.
'Duh, the ceiling.'
"Yeah, I do hear th-"
"Hello?" A voice interrupted. "Pyri? Is that you?" The voice shouted.
"Yeah, this is Pyri, who's up there? And are you ok?" I hollered, tilting my face upwards.
"Yes, I'm fine, just a little dusty. But my Dog isn't. Can you go to.... Uh, Kennel 36, and manually unlock it?"
"Stella, come on. We gotta go save Kori." I said, rolling my eyes and standing up. Frowning, I calmly ruffled the fur in between Stella's ears.
'And Hunter.' Stella scowled grudgingly. I nodded, stalking like a predator to the door, and pressing the glinting button to make the door open.
After the door took ages to slide open, I sprinted down the hall, slowing in the 30's. Running my finger along the silver numbers outside of the door, I stopped at 36 and looked down at my wrist bracelet. I swiftly entered an override code to the door. No one other than the principal knew it. But I could easily hack into the system. The door hissed open, hitting me with a blast of extremely hot air.
Kori was kneeling by Hunter, who was lying in the far corner, probably trying to squish her large frame into the shade.
"Kori," I called.
Kori whipped her head around and death-stared me, palming a concealed dagger.
I put my hands up by my shoulders, and her gaze softened.
My eyes caught on her unbound wings. Shades of brown ranging from coffee to a light tawny were speckled with gold and barred with white. I wrenched my eyes away from the stunning wings, just in time to focus on Kori's words.
"Thanks... Can you call your Spirit Dog to help me move Hunter?"
I nodded and blew a long gust of air through my o-shaped lips, creating a low whistling sound. I hoped that would work, I'd never tried it.
A few seconds later, I heard the clicking of nails on the hard floor outside the kennel. Beads of sweat dripped down the back of my neck, sliding down my back, creating an uncomfortably warm atmosphere inside of my suit. Not like I would let Kori see. I calmly twisted my features into neutrality to hide my surprise as Stella whirled like a tornado around the corner, her gaze connecting with Hunter's for less than a second. Doing a dog version of a scowl, she strutted to Hunter and Kori.
'Who's weak now?' Stella taunted. I bet only Hunter and I could hear it, seeing as Kori wasn't anywhere near bonded with Stella. A low growl resonated in Hunter's throat, her eyes still glazed over and distant.
I sighed inwardly, doubting our ability to work together for the millionth time. I slid my gaze back over to Kori, who visibly trembled.
