Chapter Twenty-Five:
[]Canis Alatus[]
Wind curled around me in a bone-chillingly cold embrace as I walked back to my dorm in silence, idly wondering if Pyri was back.
I knocked on the door in case she was in our shared dorm.
No reply.
I slid the door open and stepped inside, sucking in a breath of dorm-scented air. Pinecones, evergreen trees, and a hint of citrus perfume all filled my senses with the breath.
'Bzzzz-Ira!--zzz' The static came through my helmet.
I tuned into the staticky radio, and kept a steady, but not fast, pace as I walked in the direction my map said it was coming from.
"Hello? Who's there?" I said into my helmet.
"Ira! Thank God! I've been trying *pant* to contact you *pant* for a really *pant* long time." Zephyr said.
"Ok, first of all, are you okay?" I said, worried about Zephyr.
"Yes, for the most part, I'm fine. Just a little winded, that's all. Could you come to the kennels? I need some help with my Soul Dog, he's troublesome."
"Okay, but you owe me for making me come back there!" I joked.
No reply.
I jogged off to the kennels, my suit giving me an extreme cold warning. But that was normal, the thing that was slightly less normal, was the fact that there was a severe weather warning. I swiped away the report on my helmet screen and ran a little faster in Zephyr's direction. No way I was getting caught alone out here.
I made it to the kennels, but as soon as I stepped in the door, another alarm popped up in my helmet.
-:[ EXTREME BLIZZARD WARNING-STAY INSIDE-]:-
'Oh gods.' I thought.
We always had cold temperatures, and usually, it was snowing and windy.
But extreme blizzards were new.
Oh right! Zephyr needed my help. I had completely forgotten about them. Zephyr said they were having problems with their Soul Dog. I hope it didn't get aggressive.
I sprinted off down the hall to Chance's kennel. I hastily twisted the holographic dial that popped up as I got near. The door hissed open, and Chance was already standing. I nodded to him, and he followed me down the hallway.
While we were running, I got Zephyr back on the radio.
"Zephyr! Where are you? I'm in the building. I've got my Dog to aid us."
"Finally, what took so long?" Zephyr replied, sassily, through the radio. "I'm in the 200's. Hurry up!"
"Be right there!" I said, not knowing where to go.
The sound of Chance's toenails clacking on the hard floor, and my boots stomping right along with him made my heart feel happy, like this is where I was meant to be.
'Ira, this is our turn' Chance said. Although he didn't say it, he thought it.
I skidded around the corner, nearly running into a massive dark brown dog, running straight at us.
"Chocolate! Get back here!" Someone screamed.
Only it wasn't just someone, it was Zephyr.
"Zephyr! Hold up!" I shouted.
Zephyr paused, turning so fast my eyes struggled to track them.
"Ira!" Zephyrs' helmet-covered eyes widened, their posture widening, and shoulders opening as their eyes locked with mine.
