[Tuesday]
The girls and I are huddled in the hallway looking at the newspaper, "Have you guys seen this?" Mouse asks walking up
"Way ahead of you, Honrada" Noa says
The newspaper says 'Bullied to Death' and has us painted as the bullies, "Let's hope the disciplinary committee makes the right decision and demands these bullies immediate expulsion" I read
"We are so dead" Mouse says
After school, I walk into the locker room for soccer practice. Before I can even place my bag down, "West!" I hear
I turn and see my coach, "Yes coach?" I ask
"You no longer have a place on this team. Gather your belongings, you're out" She says
"What?" I ask
"You heard me West, out!" She shouts
I just stand there in shock, before I grab my stuff and walk out.
[Wednesday]
Noa texted and said to meet in the girls bathroom. I walk in and see it's only Noa, Faran, Mouse and I, "Where are Tabby and Imogen?" Mouse asks
"I didn't ask them to come" Noa says
"Shady, why not?" Faran asks
Noa keeps looking over her shoulder, nervous, "Noa..." I start
"Look...at the disciplinary hearing, I think we should say the video was all Imogen and Tabby" She says
I look at her, "You mean...throw them under the bus?" Faran asks
"We didn't do anything" Noa says
"We went along with it" Mouse says
"And we handed out flyers, and invited people" I say
"Imogen had Tyler's phone. Tabby organized a screening. That makes them a lot more culpable. We're all headed for an iceberg. But...we can dodge it" Noa says
"By turning on our friends" I say
"Yeah, but...are they our friends?" Faran asks
I look at Noa but she avoids my gaze, "What is it, Honrada?" Noa asks
"Maybe, A is testing us" She says
"What are you talking about?" Faran asks
"What if he's just watching us right now, seeing what we do if we turn on each other" Mouse says
"Sis....you need your devices back. You're starting to get paranoid" Faran says
"Yeah. And I'm a lot more fucking scared of Sheriff Beasley than I am of A right now. This is my last strike. You guys...if I go down, that's it for me" Noa says
I don't like this, "And it was Imogen's idea, and Tabby does work at the movie theater" Faran says
I shake my head, "That's all we have to say. That they knew exactly what they were doing, and...we didn't" Noa says
I shake my head, "I can't believe you guys are considering this" I say
"Gi...I can't go down for this" Noa says
I look at her, "I know" I say
"Than for me, please. Gi, do this for me" She says
Damn that nickname, I sigh, "Okay" I say
[Thursday]
I got a text in the group chat to meet at Tabby's. Once inside, Imogen tells us what happened at Karen's funeral, "Oh my god, that's awful. Like, Pet Cemetery, awful" Tabby says
"I just—I ran" Imogen says
"You don't think...Kelly set you up, do you?" Mouse asks
"She looked as shook as I was" Imogen says
"Damn...I didn't think the Beasley's could be more dysfunctional" Faran says
"Yeah, forget Pet Cemetery. That's some Hereditary-level shit" Tabby says
"At the hearing, I'm going to tell them that it was all my idea—which it was—and that I should be the one punished" Imogen says
Mouse, Faran, Noa and I share a glance, ""Not you guys" Imogen says
"No, no way. I cut the video, I screened it. And I have the proof" Tabby says
She shows the flash drive, "If anyone should be expelled, it's me. I could've said no or stop, but...I didn't" Tabby says
"None of us...did" I say
I look at Noa, "West's right. We're all in this together...whatever happens" Noa says
I give her a small smile, "Right, Bryant, Honrada?" Noa asks
"Yeah" Mouse says
"Yes. All for one and one for all" Faran says
"Now give me that flash drive" Noa says
She holds her hand out, "Why?" Tabby asks
"So I can flush it down the toilet" Noa says
[Friday]
The girls and I are sitting in an empty classroom with our parents. Faran's mom and dad, one of Mouse's moms, Noa's mom, Tabby's mom, and my mom. My dad had to work, he couldn't even be here for this.
"Whatever happens in there, keep your mouths shut. Let me do the talking and don't agree to anything in the room" Faran's mom, Corey says
Then the door opens and Principal Clanton walks in, "Sorry to keep you waiting. The, uh, disciplinary committee meeting has been postponed..." He says
We all look at each other, "...to a later date" He says
"Why? What happened?" Faran asks
"Kelly Beasley came to see me this morning. She admitted that Karen was in the rafters with the specific intention of harming Imogen at the Spirit Week Dance. She even provided some evidence" He says
"The bucket?" Imogen asks
"I can't say any more. But it seems that what we have here is a tragic but accidental death" He says
"What does that mean for us? For our daughters?" Tabby's mom, Sidney asks
"Given these new circumstances, I don't believe the committee is seeking expulsion anymore. A two week suspension, or four weeks of detention have been discussed. We'll let you decide" He says and walks out
We all let out a sigh of relief, I glance back at Noa and give her a smile which she reciprocates.
