Chapter 1

Gianna's POV

[September 28th, Monday]

Millwood, Pennsylvania...a town full of secrets. From the outside, it looks like your average small town. But looks can be deceiving. You know what they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover"

I'm deep in sleep before Ring! Ring! I roll over aimlessly and hit my alarm to turn it off, "Ugh" I groan

I open my eyes to be met with the sun beaming in through my window, "Another day in this hellhole" I whisper

I throw my blanket off of me before I get out of bed. I do my morning routine which incudes taking a nice long, hot shower, brushing my teeth, blowdrying my hair before placing it in a high ponytail. I step out of my bathroom, which is connected to my room, and walk to my closet.

I look through it before I decide to pull out black ripped jeans, a plain black tee and my red letterman jacket with the number 5. I put my silver chain around my neck as well as some silver rings on my fingers before placing on my red Jordan's.

Once I'm satisfied with my outfit, I walk out of my room and downstairs to the kitchen. I am immediately hit with the smell of waffles and bacon. I turn the corner to see my mom just finishing plating the food, "Morning mom" I say

She looks up, "Morning" She says plainly

She's been acting weird ever since Davie Adams killed herself. My mom never talked about her past here, but I can see it's affecting her. I just don't want to push so I leave it.

I sit down at the island and grab a plate with some waffles and bacon before digging in. As I'm eating, my mom placing a smoothie in front of me, "Thanks" I say

I grab the glass and take a sip before turning back to the food in front of me. Once I'm finished, I place the dishes in the sink, "Thanks for the food mom. I gotta head to school" I say

"Drive safe, sweetheart" She says

I grab my keys to my forest green Dodge charger before walking out the door. I know what you're thinking, how can a 16 year old afford a charger? My parents are rich, so once I turned 16 and got my license, my parents bought me my dream car. I unlock the car and throw my bag in before starting it up and driving to what I consider hell, Millwood High.

Once I park my car, I walk to the front of the building to see a huge sign, SPIRT WEEK.

"You've got to be kidding me" I whisper as I head inside

When I walk inside, I come face to face with Karen Beasley. I roll my eyes before I go to walk away, Karen and I don't get along. I'm almost away when I see Imogen walk in with, I think her name is Tabitha. Karen talks to them and I see she's being a bitch, "Karen why do you always have be a bitch about everything?" Tabitha asks

They walk away and I let out a laugh which I guess Karen heard, "What's so funny, Lesbian Loser?" She asks turning to me

"Oh nothing" I shrug, "It's just nice to see someone else call you a bitch" I say with a smirk on my face

I see that pisses her off before I turn around and make my way to my locker. I place my bag in there and grab out my books. When I turn around I see Noa and her boyfriend, Shawn, kissing. I roll my eyes, Why him?

I shake my head before I make my way to my classes. The day goes by rather quickly, thank god, before I have to head into the locker room for soccer practice. After I get changed, I hear my phone ding. I grab it out of my locker to see a text from an unknown number, "Good luck at practice" It reads

"Huh?" I whisper

I text back, "Who the fuck is this?"

"Your #1 fan" They text back

I shake my head before I put my phone away and walk out to the practice field. Practice is going great, I am dominating all of the drills. During water break, I look up and see a guy in a mask standing watching me, "What the fuck?" I whisper

I stare at him until, "West! Get your ass back out here! You're not on this team to stand around, you're here to bust your ass!" My coach yells

I whip my head around, "Sorry Coach!" I yell back

I roll my eyes as I turn back around, only to see that the guy is gone. I shake my head before I head back out to practice.

[Tuesday: Lunch]

I'm sitting at the table with the rest of the soccer team, not by choice. I would much rather be sitting alone or with anyone else but nope, I'm forced over here. I glance up and see Noa and Shawn kissing, God they're everywhere.

I look back down at my food when, "Are you fucking serious, Karen?!" I hear Imogen exclaim

I look up and see her making her way over to Karen, "Excuse me?" Karen asks playing dumb

The entire cafeteria stops talking, "Don't play dumb. Like you didn't go to Principal Clanton about me" Imogen says

"Oh shit" I whisper

Karen stands up, "Imogen...you don't seem well. Are you sure this is the right environment for someone in your...delicate condition?" Karen asks

I roll my eyes, "Thank you so much for your concern...but I'm fine" Imogen says

"Your unhinged behavior indicates otherwise" Karen says

"What did I ever do to you? Really?" Imogen asks

Then she looks over at Greg, "And, Greg..." Imogen laughs, "...you piece of shit coward. Will you finally tell her the truth?" She asks

She doesn't answer as Karen gets in her face, "You don't belong here. And I am not the only person who feels that way" Karen says

Imogen turns to us, no one answers, "Hm...Hm. Well, I'm not going anywhere" Then she turns back to Karen, "In fact...I'm gonna be Spirit Queen. Just like my mom was" She says
"What are you talking about?" Karen asks

"Keep up, Karen. I'm...running...against you...and I'm gonna win" Imogen says before confidently walking out

I smirk, "She's got my vote" I say

[Wednesday]

I'm walking through the halls when I hear, "Gianna West report to Principal Clanton's office...Gianna West report to Principal Clanton's office" Over the PA system

I have a confused look on my face as I start to go. When I walk by Karen, I see she gives me an even more disgusted look than normal. I just roll my eyes before I head to the principal's office.

"You wanted to see me?" I ask

"Yes, Gianna take a seat" He says

I sit across from him, "Why am I here?" I ask

He looks at me, "Gianna I know" He says

"You know what?" I ask confused

"I know you're the one who vandalized Karen Beasley's locker" He says

"What?!" I exclaim, "No I didn't do that Principal Clanton"

"Gianna, we have proof" He says

"What proof?" I ask, "Sir I didn't do this, you have to believe me. Karen hates me, she's trying to get back at me" I say trying to convince him

He shakes his head, "Gianna we found the spray paint in your locker" He says

"Sir, you have to believe me, this is a mistake. Why would I risk everything and be stupid enough to keep evidence in my locker?" I try telling him

He just shakes his head, "You have detention after school. You're lucky I'm not calling the Sheriff about this" He says firmly

I just give up, "Yes sir"
