Later that night, around 3am, Alexander gets to Thomas' house. He takes a deep breath and unlocks the door with the spare key Thomas left under the welcome mat. He opens the door and looks around, hoping to not see Thomas. When he realizes Thomas isn't present, he calmly closes the door behind him and locks it.
Alexander's heart drops when he hears someone snarl, "Alexander." He looks around until his eyes meet Thomas' glare in the doorway of the foyer to the living room.
"T.. Thomas. Hi." Alexander says, smiling faintly. He walks towards the tall dark man. Thomas tilts his head. "Just where were you, darlin'?" Thomas queries, in a commanding tone.
Alexander glances off. He doesn't respond. Thomas huffs. "I was worried sick." Thomas admits. Alexander's eyes widen. "Oh."
Thomas walks towards Alexander, Alexander steps back. "Alexander, I understand that you don't fancy me.. but.."
Alexander is taken aback. "Don't fancy you? Who told you I don't like you?" he queries, confused.
Thomas sighs. "It's just..." he hesitates. "You've been distant. Did I do somethin' wrong? I'm.. I'm sorry, Alexander." Thomas mutters, his voice shaky and raspy from his unshed tears that are hard to keep in.
Alexander takes a deep breath. "You did nothing wrong, Thomas.." Alexander reassures while walking up to Thomas and grabbing his slim, dark hand. His fingers intertwine with Thomas'. Thomas is at a loss for words; he averts his eyes.
"I'm havin' a feeling this distance is 'cause of John. Ain't it? I make you uncomfortable 'cause of John. You wanna move back in with him, don't you?" Thomas accuses. He impatiently awaits Alexander's response.
Alexander takes a deep breath and holds Thomas' warm hand tighter. Alexander shakes his head and frowns. "It has nothing to do with.." he glances off and doesn't finish his sentence. This makes Thomas all the more suspicious, and he's been holding in his emotions for so long he doesn't know how much longer he can last.
Thomas breaks free of Alexander's grasp and asks once more, "Is this because of John?"
Alexander doesn't respond. Thomas' glare on Alexander sharpens. "What happened while y'all were up there?" he asks. "Please... Alexander! Tell me." He begs desperately, clinging onto Alexander's shoulders.
Alexander bites his lip anxiously and glares helplessly at the desperate man before him. Alexander exhales deeply and walks over to the couch without a word. He lounges on the couch and practically sinks into it.
Thomas watches as Alexander ignores his question. Thomas lets out a shaky sigh. "I'm sorry." he whispers from the doorway. Alexander shakes his head. "It's not your fault." he reiterates.
Thomas sighs. "I think it is my fault, ain't it?" he announces, shakily. He leans on the door frame and goes silent for a moment.
Alexander sits in silence for a few seconds before hearing a noise behind him. He quickly jerks his head around to look behind the couch and he notices Thomas in the doorway. "Thomas? Are you okay?" he queries, getting up. Alexander doesn't break his stare. Thomas sniffles.
Alexander frowns. "Oh, Thomas.." he whispers, walking up to Thomas and moving his slender hands away from his face, revealing that he has tears streaming down his cheeks.
