Cole was happy. He'd won the practice battle against Selene, which have him satisfaction. He snickered, but not too loudly in case anyone heard (especially Lilly). He walked over to Jason who looked a little bit intimidated.
"What did you do to Selene?" Arabella asked, fear defined in her eyes.
"Actually it wasn't his fault," Lilly said as Asher and her daughter got to their feet and walked over to the group.
"Wait, Cole did that?" Flora said, crossing her arms, talking about Selene.
"No he didn't. Don't jump to conclusions because I know what happened earlier." Lilly sighed, ready to explain. "What I was told by the Guardians of the Elements was that Opposites can't battle. It's either one looses, or they both loose. In no history there's been that an Obtainer wins against an Opposite."
"So it's not my fault?" Cole said, relieved, but he didn't show it.
"Yes, it's not your fault." Lilly sighed.
"So that's how that happened?" Arabella asked, not knowing if it were true.
"Yes, and it's getting late. We should probably get some sleep." Lilly said.
It was true, it was getting late. The sunset was turning the sky into a beauteous painting of soft blue, hot pink, sunburst orange, and lilac. But it was getting darker as Cole saw three moons in the sky, and one was shining down in the center of the Earth Forest.
"Why are there three moons in the sky?" Asher asked as he yawned.
"It represents the three categories of The Elements. The Main, Dark and Seasonal Elements. What luck that the first Moon is shining down in the center of the Earth Forest." Lilly explained, looking up at the sky.
Cole laid down on the ground next to a nearby tree, and curled up into a little ball.
Soon a wave of thoughts rushed over him like smoke; it was that moment that he realized that his father, Louis was still not found, he'd just been taken out of his normal life for this fantasy life that might not even be real, but he didn't want to even think.
As sleep hit him like a bullet, soon sleep was dreadful.
Because he dreamt of something terrible.
It was in his dream that Cole found himself in the smoke filled sky. It was hard to tell what was what, or if he could see anything at all.
"What the hell happened?" Cole asked to nobody in particular, his voice furious.
"Ahh, it seemed you'd be a good addition to the Darkness." A voice snarled.
Cole's heart sped up, and he tried hard to stay calm, and keep composure.
"Who are you?" He dared to ask, but he didn't get an answer.
A black mist that looked the same as the black smoke swirled around him. The moan that sounded like the dead filled the air as Cole struggled to cover his ears.
"You will join the Darkness, Cole. I'll do whatever it takes for you and some other victims to join. You will, there's evil within your blood, and you can't stop it." The voice came again, the forceful words ringing in Cole's ears.
That was when the dream ended , but a new one started.
The next dream was just as terrible. Cole discovered he was in a rural area, but it wasn't just a peaceful farm in the prairie. The whole place had raging fire everywhere, and it wasn't going to stop anytime soon.
I still don't know where the hell I am, Cole thought, hearing his beating hear in his ears.
He soon saw a woman, about at the age of 25, lying on the ground, looking like she was in pain. Cole carefully went closer.
The woman with fiery red hair faced him, her fire like brown eyes burning like embers into his soul.
"Cole....." She said. "If only Ember could see you now."
Cole was surprised this woman he'd only just met knew his mother's name.
"Who are you?" He asked calmly.
"I'm Kala, The Guardian of Fire. I'm sorry, but you'll only ever see me in your dreams, never in real life. But Cole, you need to get out of here, the Darkness has taken over." The woman advised, and Cole could see the bruises on her face.
"What happened to you?" Cole asked, now concerned for the woman.
"That doesn't matter. You need to go, now!" Kala yelled on terror as the moans of the dead took to the air.
Cole turned away form the woman who knew his mother and started to run.
Darkness started to fill the air once again, and he blacked out.
Why had Kala known his mother?
