It was a chilly, cool Tuesday in Santa Monica, California where Selene happened to live. She lived with her Aunt Misty who treated her well, but Selene had grown up without her mother. Her mother's sister had been taking care of her just as if Selene was her own daughter. Selene was just sitting at her desk in her bedroom drawing the ocean. It may have been August but that didn't mean she couldn't swim in the ocean, but the ocean around this time was cold, so she preferred not to.
After Selene was done, she tapped the picture to the wall and admired it.
I'm going to go to the pond, she decided and started to walk outside.
The pond was just in Selene's backyard, looking elegant and fancy as it always did. There were some fish swimming around, untroubled, as if everything was right with the world. The water in the pond was a shimmering clear turquoise in the sparkling sunlight.
Selene reached out to stroke a fish, and the fish happily accepted. But what was soon unusual was that Selene saw a blue light hovering above her. She gasped as the fish swam away, and she started to run, heart hammering inside her chest.

It was the next day after school was over, Selene had to go to art class. She didn't mind of course, because art was her favorite thing to do. Brushing her raven black hair out of her aqua eyes, she began to draw. Just after art class Aunt Misty ushered Selene to get in the car, and they went out to dinner. As they ate, Selene saw a blue light near the ocean.
"May I go look for seashells on the beach?" She asked as soon as she was finished eating.
"Of course, but do me a favor and don't get yourself wet, ok?" Aunt Misty nodded and chucked at her own comment.
Selene ran out to the edge of the water and looked up. There it was, the blue light. Selene's indigo blue skirt was blowing in the wind, and she kept it down. Her soft blue v-neck quarter sleeve shirt blew in the wind too, but not as much. Her black Converse sneakers were filled with the white sand from the sand on the beach, and soon enough something happened.
She saw a blue light in the sky and now everything was tinted blue.
"Wait the hell is this? A joke?" Selene asked herself, and then realizing that it looked similar to the one she'd seen just the day before.
"Selene!" She heard her aunt cry from the restaurant, but she was too focused on the blue light to notice.
"You are the Water Obtainer, Selene. No matter what happens, you need to keep yourself and others safe, because it's up to you and the other Elemental to stop the Darkness." A voice like silk erupted into the air.
Selene screamed as a seething pain creeped up her spine, and though out her whole entire body. It felt like she was dying, but she could still see everything.
Aunt Misty rushed to Selene's aid as Selene collapsed to her knees. "Are you ok?" She asked her niece in pure concern. "But wait there's something I need to tell....."
Selene didn't get a chance to reply, because her eyes suddenly locked shut, and she spun into deep, deep, darkness.
