The world seemed brighter than ever as the street lamps illuminated the city streets, but that didn't change the coldness in the room.
Toya was in his room, curled up in a little ball, with stifled sounds of tears and sadness eminentating barely from him, only far enough to be nondescript past his thick, wooden door. He wanted out, no matter what. This was the last straw, and he could no longer take it anymore.
He wanted away, away from this horrid figure he couldn't bring to say was his father, but where could he go? Akito? No he lives too close to his father workplace, it would be only a matter of time before they run into each other. Ann? No, even though his father is nice, he knows his dad, and phones would be called in matter of minutes. Kohane? No, he's met their parents. It wouldn't be much better to go to her rather than to Ann. But where?
His mind wandered into the background as his hands went to work. taking his clothes, his homework, he reached for his music, but he stopped. He slid the piano music aside, and grabbed the draft for his song. He didn't get far because of what memories it brought, but that was in the past. He needed to think forward, into what next to do.
He grabbed the only thing he could call his own, his video game console. It was decades old, playing games made back when he wasn't born, but it was his. He slid it in his backpack, opened the window, and felt the air outside. It was just as cold as it's always been, but it's never felt so refreshing.
He repositioned himself to hang his legs out the window, and moves just a little bit. He turns his arms and closed the window behind him. He knows his dad will find out when he wakes him up, maybe it'll be sooner, He could get lost, for all Toya cared.
He quietly slipped from the window to the ground, and ran. He didn't know where to, but he knew that his feet would find his way. He didn't care how far they went, he just knew they would bring him to home, a real one. With a loving family and far from where he used to live.
The pavement felt like it was pulling him, pulling him towards freedom, towards... the Tenma Household? Toya's feet couldn't carry him anymore as he fell to the ground, out of breath and far from where he used to be, with only his bag on his back.
He stood against the house, and rang the door bell. He knew that someone would come to the door, ke knew at least someone was awake, they had to be. The door creeped open, and there stood Tsukasa and Rui. An old friend and a reoccurring acquaintance. He wondered just what were they doing before he showed up, but he didn't spend any time thinking.
His great escape and run of freedom took hold of his consciousness, and he nearly made it to the couch before he collapsed. Unconscious, but happy, to both Tsukasa and Rui's confusion, he smiled, and let the sleep consume him.
