"That's because they sort of are."
In recent memory, Jess has never been excited to go to school. Not when she was alive, and not when she died and just followed her best and only friend wherever he went. But things change, and she is now more excited about going to the building than Justin.
Her first priority is to get Justin back into the dance showcase. It turns out to be incredibly easy, she would almost think the world is rewarding her for all her time away. Though the decision is pending approval from Principal Lessa, Justin's dance teacher always had confidence he would return. Supposedly, Carrie Wilson told them a while ago that Justin agreed to come back and to keep a spot open for him. Jess wishes she could thank the girl in person, but until Carrie can see ghosts, that is nothing but a dream.
Justin thanks Carrie for her, giving the girl a huge hug the moment they see each other. "You're sneaky, Wilson," Justin exclaims as he finally puts Carrie down.
Jess stays a few steps away as she watches the two converse. Though Carrie is still the same girl as before, smoothing out her outfit and fixing her perfect hair, she has a genuine smile Jess has not seen in a long time.
Choosing to give them space, Jess looks up and down the halls with her lips pursed until she spots Julie by her locker with Flynn. Julie grins and waves when she notices Jess watching her.
"Hey, you!" Julie says as Jess tentatively goes over to them. "Why are you stuck in school? The boys were going to take you into the city."
"They were?" Jess bites her lip to keep her smile from growing too big. "I haven't seen them yet today." Tugging on her sleeves, she pushes her hair out of her face and looks down at her feet. Gosh, is she blushing now?
Flynn glances around and says, "What's she doing? I still can't see ghosts!"
"She's blushing," Julie laughs. "Of course, she is."
"I am not!" Jess presses the backs of her hands to her cheeks. "Ok, maybe I am, but I have been stuck in a club with no windows for a while, and I've missed you guys." With a dramatic shrug, Jess takes a deep breath and looks away.
When her gaze lands on Justin, she sees someone new talking to him. The girl holds a textbook in front of her chest, half-covering a cute sweatshirt with a design Jess can't quite make out from this distance. She wears glasses that keep sliding down her nose and speaks with a constant blush on her face.
Jess follows her gaze and tenses. "We haven't told you about that, have we? Ok, this might be a lot to take in, and I know you're probably overwhelmed—"
"Tell me about what? About Daisy?" Jess asks. "I knew she goes to school here. She seems to be liking it."
"Wait, you know Daisy?" Julie's eyes widen. "Like, you know who she is?"
