"What?"
"Nothing, you just... You look really good today."
"RIGHT this way." The boy known as Willie says as he leads the four ghosts through the halls of the hotel. He smiles at each of them, Alex a little more than the rest, as he motions to the party below him.
Jess likes him enough. The boy seems sweet with good intentions. She may be on Justin's side of this love triangle but she can respect the kid. What she doesn't really enjoy is the feeling in the pit of her stomach that's been settled there since her conversation with Justin.
Part of her likes to think she would be brave. Part of her knows that's not true. What scares her is that she has no idea what she would do if she had to choose between the boys and herself. Would she be brave or be the same coward she has always been?
"So this is where your hotshot ghost lives, huh?" Luke asks as they all look around. Jess stays planted beside Reggie, always just a step behind the boys.
Alex takes a step forward. "Yeah, we've walked past this hotel, like, a million times. How come we've never heard of it?"
"That's because this area has been sealed off for decades," Willie replies. "I mean, you wouldn't even know this place exists unless you're invited. All right. I gotta go make sure everything's cool with Jess joining us, but I'll be right back."
As Willie takes his leave, Jess looks back at the large sign beside her. "Hollywood Ghost Club?" She whispers as the boys lean against the railing. "Kind of creepy, right?"
Alex shrugs. "Yeah, well, so are we."
"I don't know about this," she says as she steps up next to Reggie.
"Well, if you get scared, you can always hide behind Reggie."
"What if I get scared?" Reggie asks.
"Then you can hide behind me," Alex says with a nod before moving behind Luke. "I'll be hiding behind Luke."
"You guys need to grow up, ok?" Luke says, obviously annoyed. "We're gonna get back at Bobby. He needs to pay for what he did to us."
"I'm still gonna hide behind him."
Jess just shakes her head as she looks down on the partygoers before checking her watch. She jumps when she feels Reggie nudge her side. "Hey, you ok?" He asks, his eyes a bit wider than she anticipated.
"Oh, yeah," she replies with a nod. "Just not the biggest fan of parties."
"But you went to concerts and loved those," Alex says, leaning forward against the railing as Luke looks over at her too. "What's different about parties?"
