CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE
sweet medicineKAORI AND CHISHIYA had taken a well-deserved nap after completing the Jack of Hearts' game. None of them had dared to say it out loud but this game had been exhausting on many levels for both of them.
For once, Chishiya had woken up before the girl and already used the bathroom when she emerged from her bedroom with tiny eyes and her hair all over the place. Funny how, under normal circumstances, Chishiya wouldn't pay attention to such a vulnerable state but here, he stared at the girl until she locked herself into the bathroom.
It was a pretty sight to him.
After showering —thinking about the cold water hitting her skin was still giving her chills, she walked out of the bathroom to see Chishiya watching a picture framed in her library.
She smiled, "That's my sister with me."
Chishiya blinked, taking one last look at the picture before facing the girl, "You two look a lot alike."
"You think?" she asked. It was quite rare for people to point out any resemblance, mainly because of the age difference. Also because her sister was so bubbly and joyful, unlike Kaori who would always come off as quite reserved and cold at first.
"You have the same smile," he pointed out casually. "And eyes."
Kaori made her way to the library, standing just in front of Chishiya who was sitting down on the couch, and she took a good look at the picture. It was funny to her to hear someone point out these similarities.
Probably because she was so used to her sister being someone fundamentally different that it was difficult for her to catch any resemblance.
The picture had been taken by her mother the day she celebrated opening her bookstore. It was such a wonderful memory for Kaori, probably one of her favorite ever. She would never forget the way her sister was mesmerized by the place, looking at her as if she was the most wonderful sister in the world.
And now that Chishiya had mentioned it, they did share the same smile and that glimmer in the eyes.
Kaori could feel her heart clenching in her chest. She would give everything to make sure her little sister was safe and sound. She must be... she has to be somewhere else, I don't know where but she is fine.
Chishiya sensed the shift in Kaori's body. Her shoulders tensed and a veil of worry covered her eyes. How unsettling for him to want this tension gone. It wasn't a pretty sight.
Kaori felt his eyes on her, "What?"
Like flipping a switch, he smirked, his eyes focused on what she was wearing, "Pajamas during the day, uh?"
Kaori was indeed wearing her pajamas. A random oversized tee shirt with grey shorts, "Hey, who are you to judge. We're not playing another game today, are we?"
