CHAPTER EIGHT

ASUKA was covered in blood when Kaori found her right outside of the building. On her face, her neck, her shirt and her hands. It was the first thing she had noticed. Her hands were red and completely cut, especially around her thumbs. She observed the knife Asuka had carefully tucked in her back pocket, unsurprisingly, it was all bloody as well.
Deep down, Kaori knew her best friend had probably used it on the first tagger —she had to look away when she walked past the lifeless body, unrecognizable due to the amount of knife wounds on his neck and face, but she pushed the thought away.
They were alive and, right now, it was all that mattered.
"You okay?"
Asuka hummed in response, staring absentmindedly ahead where a player was standing against a car, apparently waiting for someone else.
The man sensed a stare and made eye contact with the two girls, Kaori noticing a large knife cut all over the left side of his face. Ouch, must have been painful.
"I helped him kill the tagger," Asuka said calmly, "When you ran upstairs, I found him and two other guys. One of them had your fire extinguisher, by the way."
Asuka giggled at the thought, completely oblivious that Kaori had visibly tensed, so... she did kill that man... with her tiny little knife. "I think he was impressed to see a girl so strong. Not really a feminist but, hey, you gotta start somewhere."
It was Kaori's turn to stare blankly ahead, feeling like she had been slapped across the face. She knew Asuka was athletic, that she had learned how to fight, she had just never pictured her best friend being capable of killing someone else and feel remorseless about taking someone else's life.
She was not expecting to see Asuka crying, especially when the man had literally tried to kill everyone in the building, but she did make a mental note that she was breathing calmly, standing straight and perfectly still, making it look like killing was a child's play.
"Apparently, he stays at a place where they know how to get out of here," Asuka explained, "He offered for me to come."
Kaori snapped her head to the side, noticing the smile dangling on her friend's lips.
"I'm sure he'd let you come," Asuka added as she walked towards the man, "Hey! Do you think she could come too? She is literally the smartest person you'll ever meet."
Kaori grimaced, "Asuka, stop! I'm not going anywhere with him!"
"What?" Asuka looked shocked at her friend's words, "Why?"
"Why?! 'Cause I don't know this dude, that's why!" she fumed, "Are you serious, right now? You just met him!"
A figure walked past Kaori, she recognized Chishiya who made his way to the car, his hands in his pockets, as always.
