CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR
facing the mirrorTHINGS QUICKLY TURNED MESSY at the Beach and Kaori had escaped the lobby —now turned into a mass murder room, to avoid being killed by a militant.
She was locked in a random room, knowing too well she wouldn't be able to stay there very long, but she had no plan to solve the game.
Everything seemed to have happened too rapidly for her own liking, she wasn't even given the opportunity to observe Momoka's body and even less the players, all suspects at this point.
She took a deep breath and focused on the rules. In itself, the game was fairly easy. Find the person who killed Momoka and throw them in the fire. But it doesn't make sense with my theory for Heart's games...
The screaming of players echoed too close for Kaori's liking and she threw herself under the large bed at the exact time the door was swiped open.
They begged for their lives and Kaori tuned off the sounds of the bullets and the bodies crashing on the bed when she realized something.
We don't know who's the witch but we know who's dead. That's where we should start. Maybe I'll find some sort of clue in Momoka's room.
But there was a problem. And a big one. Kaori had absolutely no clue where her room was. She never really hung out with her, or with Asahi for that matter, since they were constantly attached to the hip and they spent hours giving side eyes to whoever dared to be near them.
She had never really paid attention to that duo even though she had always thought they were a bit... special.
Slowly, Kaori emerged from her hiding spot, seeing some stars dotting her view at the sight of the dead bodies sprawled on the bed.
She tiptoed —focusing really hard to detect any suspicious sounds coming from the hallway, and leaned her head out of the room, taking a look on both sides to make sure the path was clear.
I need to go see Momoka's body. With some chance, Asahi's still around and can tell me where her room is. If she isn't there... I'll have to figure out something else.
Luckily for Kaori, she didn't cross paths with any militant on her way back to the lobby. But before she could make it, she met Ann and Kuina.
"Kaori!" Kuina let out in a sigh, "Where've you been?"
"I didn't feel like being shot," she replied, "Glad to see you're both still alive."
Kuina smiled, "Same here."
"Hey, maybe one of you knows. I'm looking for Momoka's room."
Ann frowned, "Why?"
"She wasn't killed in the lobby," Kaori explained, "Maybe there are some clues in her room."
