USAGI APPEARED NEAR KAORI, with confusion written all over her face. "What are you doing?"
Kaori's knees buckled, her legs becoming weaker by the second and her breathing heavier, every inhale and exhale demanded focus. Stay up, stay up.
But it was too much to take. Her body launched forward and she crashed on her knees, Usagi immediately running and crouching next to her with her arms around the girl's waist, "Kaori!"
Usagi looked at Arisu in fear, "What happened to her!" She used her free hand to force Kaori's head up, "Hey, hey, look at me."
"She was shot by the King of Spades," Arisu said with a trembling voice. "Kaori, hold on!"
"When?" Chishiya asked, ready to get up.
"Two... three days ago?" Arisu said. "I—I don't remember exactly!"
With Usagi's help, Kaori got back up on her feet, "I—I'm fine, I just didn't eat."
She didn't see Niragi smirking as he raised his gun in their direction, "Oh, yeah, there was you too." And he pulled the trigger.
He barely missed them but it only caused the two girls to jump to the side, Usagi forcefully pulling the girl with her, causing Kaori to groan in pain.
"Usagi! Kaori!" Arisu screamed before aiming at Niragi, "Stop it! They have no part in this!"
"Every game needs a heroine to make it exciting!" Niragi said. "And look, we have two!"
"This is insane!"
"If you're both dead, then the three of us can be kindred spirits again," Niragi declared with his eyes on the girls. "I can't stand to be alone anymore."
Everything happened too quickly for Kaori to process. It was only a matter of seconds before Niragi would pull the trigger and kill them both. It was easy, he would only have to aim forward. She didn't even have enough time to think about pulling out the gun in her back pocket.
The first sound of a trigger echoed all around them, followed closely by a second one.
And then, complete silence.
Kaori was still shivering when she looked to the side. Usagi was there, panting heavily but her body remained still, no sign of gunshot.
A vision of terror appeared beneath her when she looked in front of her.
Chishiya was standing in front of them, facing Niragi and he crashed onto the ground.
Usagi was the first one to run by his side, "Chishiya!"
With every ounce of strength left in her body, Kaori got up, hardly walking before crashing on her knees by his side with tears welling up in her eyes, "Chishiya..."
