2 Years 9 Months and 10 days- In the Glade

"Here you go (Y/n)," Fry says with a smile, handing me my dinner, I look at the dessert ration and hand it back. Fry's brows immediately furrow as he tentatively takes the cookie back "What's wrong with it?" He asks and I feel myself almost attempting to search for Gally's face behind me. "I don't dish out punishments I can't take. Until they've made up for what they've stolen I won't eat any dessert rations either," I tell him but Fry puffs out air unsatisfied with my answer. "You shouldn't punish yourself for their bad behavior," he adds and I shrug "I've done plenty bad Fry just not to you," I answer before heading to my spot next to Alby.

As I walk over I notice Newt beside Alby, he's talking a mile a minute extremely passionate about whatever it is going through his head. "(Y/n)!" he says when he sees me "I came up with a way to double our rations!" Newt says and I immediately hush him "Newt watch your tone, this is something that has to be voted on you can't just spout this stuff out," and he immediately nods in acknowledgment. "I was helping with the slicers today and their slaughter schedule can be pushed out, and we can attempt breeding the animals," he explains and I hum in response the word breed makes my skin crawl but I push past it.

I look to Alby "I'll check with Winston after dinner," I tell him and he nods "Hold small council in the morning, I'll tell the keepers," he adds and we nod together. I eat my dinner in silence after that, my stomach churns and I can't stop thinking of that word, breed. Being the only girl in the glade has never been easy and I can remember the whispered conversations they'd have. It will forever haunt me. As we finish with dinner I reach for Alby's shoulder to stop him from going far "Mine talking to Winston for me?" I ask and he turns to me fully searching my eyes. "You good?" he asks his voice holding a serious edge I squeeze his shoulder "I'm good," I tell him.

"I'll handle it," he states and I nod with a half smile before heading straight to Dead Head's lake. I don't go to change clothes or anything I just go, the water cuts off all the noise in my head, and when I'm under the cover of the trees I feel myself sprinting towards the water. I feel my age when I run for the water, before I know it I'm splashing through it. I burst back to the surface a smile painted on my features. I hear a rumble of laughter and my face reverts to its usual sneer of an expression. I look to see only Gally though, he's sitting at the edge of the water my notebook in hand.

"I wasn't expecting you to be here," I say and he sets the notebook down "I wasn't expecting you either, I thought you only swam on Greenie day," he asks, I shrug in the water. "I felt like taking a swim," I say as I feel the water wading around me calming my every nerve with nothing but its constant pulse. We sit in silence for a little and my eyes flicker to the notebook, and I wonder what he's learned. "It's weird to read about how the glade used to be, or even how you used to be," Gally says and I let out a hollow laugh "It's because you shouldn't know," I tell him "Alby and I worked hard to make sure this place bared no resemblance to what it used to be," I explain.

Gally shakes his head "I don't think that's why you didn't want me to read it," he says leaning back on his palms as he looks up at the trees. "You wrote to me," he says and I know what he's been reading and I wish I could burn the notebooks that once brought me peace. "I wrote to the boy who left me that note. That's not you anymore," I tell Gally, and his brows crease "How do you know?" he asks, and I just stare at him as he looks into my (e/c) eyes. "Because I'm not her anymore, I'm not sure I'm the girl who wrote those words anymore. I used to dream of you, in a way, I didn't know what you looked like or even how you sounded like, but I dreamt you got me out of here. That was my dream until the day you wrote your name on the maze wall," I tell him, and Gally's silent.

"Maybe we can save each other still," he tells me.

"Dear, Gally

I hope you never see this place, these four agonizing walls, or worse the complex nightmare of the maze. I went with Alby out there today, and I could hear the monsters inside, I couldn't be out there long. This place feels like hell, I never know what will happen or if we'll survive. Without Alby I think I'd given up, I hope we find a way out soon.

Love, (Y/n)"
