Maverick

I could tell Mya was upset as I put my bag in the bus. "I'm going to miss you."

"I know, but I'll be home before you know it."

She smiled and kissed me. "Good luck."

"Thank you."

After we left, JJ had his face buried in his phone, avoiding any and all eye contact with me. "Mav?"

I looked up at Dale and raised my eyebrows. "What?"

"Did you hear anything that I just said?"

"N-no."

"We're going to have a good trip this weekend."

"As long as we win."

"You know we will."

Later that night, all I could think of was Mya. I knew this was hard for her, but she knew what she got herself into getting in a relationship with me. Hockey occupied 99.9% of the time we spend together whether if she would like to accept it.

*** Two weeks later: "I can't believe we won."

"I know, we whooped their ass."

The following day, we arrived back home late but the moment I went to unlock the door, I saw Mya smiling. "Hi! Congratulations, babe! I am so proud of you guys!"

"Thanks, I've worked hard for this."

She smiled. "I know. God, I missed you so much."

"I missed you too."

"Have you thought about the wedding at all?"

"I haven't had time unfortunately."

"Well, Callie and I have been talking about it."

"Yeah?"

"Yes."

"What did you guys discuss?"

"Some locations and themes."

"What did you have in mind?"

"Rustic and vintage."

"You mean like cowboy boots and hats?"

"I am assuming that's something you aren't into?"

"I mean, I've never worn any of that once in my life, but I could give it a try."

"Really?"

"Sure."

"I didn't think you would say yes to that."

"It's worth a try."

Mya smiled and hugged me. "God, I can't wait to marry you."

"Me too."

After she fell asleep, I texted Dale and Tyler. I have never worn cowboy boots in my life, man.

Dale: I'm sure it's out of your comfort zone, but I'm sure you'll pull it off

Tyler: I haven't either, but it'll be a first for us both.

Maverick: I don't know. I told her I would give it a try, but I feel like I can't promise it either.

Dale: I get it. It's hard stepping out of your comfort zone, but you never know! You might end up liking it.

Maverick: A hockey player wearing cowboy boots and a hat? I don't know.

Tyler: Never know, man. Ya'll figure that out eventually. I know how much you love her and I'm sure you would do anything for her.

Maverick: It's just one day. We'll see how she acts beforehand.

Dale: Exactly.

I hated stepping out of my comfort zone, but I will be getting married in a few short months. It was just a matter of knowing if she'll repeat the same mistake she made with Cam.
