Lexie
Around noon, I decided to call JJ. "Lexie?"
"What the hell, JJ?"
"What?"
"Maverick cheated on me last night!"
"No, he didn't."
"I saw your TikTok!"
"We went clubbing and just bought some drinks for girls. Several girls hit on him, but he turned all of them down."
"Bullshit!"
"Lexie, he's my best friend. I wouldn't lie about him."
"Yeah, okay."
I hung up and called my father to watch Andrew before going to the bar downtown. After ordering a Martini, I noticed a familiar guy sitting alone two stools away from me. "Lexie?"
"Derek, what are you doing here?"
"I needed some alone time, you?"
"Why?"
"I just needed some alone time. I've been stressed with work lately, and although I do appreciate Callie's offer of helping me deal with the stress, I figured that maybe a drink or two could get me through the rest of the day."
"Where's Callie?"
"She's home with Drake."
"Oh, okay."
Derek raised his eyebrows and set his glass down on the counter. "Are you alright, Lexie? You seem upset."
"Yeah, I honestly am to say the least."
"Why?"
"Why should you care?"
"Because your part of the family now that you and Maverick are married."
"Yeah, yeah."
"So, tell me what is going on."
"I really shouldn't."
"Oh, come on."
"What about Callie?"
"What about her?"
"How would she feel about... this?"
Derek chuckled. "About what? I just happened to bump into you and there's no hurt in having a conversation."
I hated venting to people, but I found myself telling Derek everything while he sat silently listening to me. "Sorry, I shouldn't have."
"I know for a fact that Maverick would never do that to you."
"Of course, he would, he's a hockey player and he can snag any girl that is available."
Derek shook his head. "He wouldn't cheat on you. Why would you accuse him?"
"Because Danny is..."
Derek scowled. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. What did you just say?"
"I..."
"Have you been seeing him?"
"Umm..."
"So, this bullshit was just a fake sob story of yours?"
"No! I didn't say that. Just... Don't tell Maverick."
"I can't believe that you would do that. Not only did you betray Maverick, but you also betrayed my wife."
"Danny is not her real father."
"It doesn't matter! Family is family."
"My head hasn't been clear lately, but I could really ruin things with Maverick if he found out."
"You crossed a line that is unforgiveable."
"We all make mistakes."
"Mistakes? Not only did you just sleep with my wife's stepfather but what makes it even worse, he is YOUR husband's father."
"Please don't tell him, I am begging you."
Derek stood up and grabbed his jacket off the back of the stool. "Have a good day, Lexie."
"Wait, Derek! Just promise me you won't tell Maverick."
He looked at me and shook his head. "He will find out somehow, Lexie."
"He won't find out."
"Have a good rest of your day, I wish you the best of luck."
"What's that mean?"
He left the bar without saying a word and I questioned if Derek would actually tell him.
